I bought this for my boyfriend for Christmas since he loves anything about European cars, specifically Mercedes-Benz. The picture quality was great and it was an interesting compilation of all of the AMG models. I know that he is very pleased with the book and likes to show it off to his friends. I do know that he noticed some errors in the book, like some of the models had the wrong engine listed for certain years (I don't remember which ones off of the top of my head) but I don't think it really took away from the quality of the book. It is bound very nicely and I received it pretty quickly and in time for the holidays.

Excellent book that seamlessly takes you through the first 45 years of AMG. A must read for serious AMG fans and those desiring to learn about the history of AMG. I could not put the book down once I started reading. The book is filled with several large photos which capture AMG cars from past to the time of publication. Well done!

The only complete chronicle of all things AMG

Great book, probably the most comprehensive out there. Contains some inaccuracies though. Wish there was a newer edition available.

The photos for this book are great, and I'm also glad the history of AMG has been told. my only disappointment are the typos and technical inaccuracies in various parts of the book ( i.e. describing supercharged motors as beingturbocharged) since this book will become a key future reference for the AMG cars.I own an AMG model (e55) and they are becoming iconic....

Awesome book for an awesome company!!

Our Mothers' War: American Women at Home and at the Front During World War II

From Publishers Weekly

After years of planting Victory gardens, volunteering at USOs and coping with increased home front responsibilities, in early 1945 Yellin's mother quit her desk job at Reader's Digest and shipped out to the Pacific Front to join the Red Cross. Wartime manpower shortages were bending gender rules, and many women seized the opportunity to try something different. While feminist historians have analyzed the meaning of their war experience, ?ournalist Yellin takes a more subjective approach. This nonjudgmental, anecdotal account covers the usual range of topics—women in war industries, in volunteer work, in the armed forces, in undercover operations—but Yellin avoids retelling the familiar. Thus, she discusses the experiences of Lena Horne and Julia Child more fully than those of Eleanor Roosevelt, and delves deeper into the anti-Semitic Mothers' Movement and Hawaiian prostitutes walking picket lines than more mainstream organizations like the CIO women's committees. Yellin describes the exclusion of African-American women from most military units and the internment of Japanese-American women, but adds little to present scholarship on minority women's participation. Indeed, since her most original material comes from interviews with relatives, family friends and contacts, the book is strongest on the experiences of educated white women, which were surprisingly diverse. For WAVES director Mildred McAfee—the president of Wellesley College before the war—life in the navy took her out of her "cloister" and thrust her into a world where "women are women and men are men." For others, like Yellin's mother, the war let their genies out of the bottle. Copyright © Reed Business Information, a division of Reed Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

From School Library Journal

Adult/High School–An exceptionally well-written, exhaustively researched book. During World War II, females were confined to auxiliary roles. Yellin reveals all of the responsibilities held by women, including helping to manufacture aircraft, ships, and other munitions; and, in the process, outproducing all of America's allies and enemies, by far. Readers see war brides who worked hard to maintain the morale of their husbands while surviving long separation, fear, and shortages of virtually everything necessary to support a family. Yellin writes about performers like Betty Grable, who traveled to combat theaters to raise the spirits of soldiers, sailors, and airmen. Our Mothers' War is an important book because the role played by women in World War II has been regularly ignored.–Alan Gropman, National Defense University, Washington, DC Copyright © Reed Business Information, a division of Reed Elsevier Inc. Brings many subjects involving the effect to womens' works in the period 1942-1945 and beyond into discussion and consideration. I found it one of the most interesting and enlightening books about WWII that I have read, particularly with regards to those "left behind". Those "left behind" were invaluable to winning the war. Without the millions of great women working back in the States during those years, we may all be way too fluent in speaking German and Japanese, without our desire of doing so.

Growing up in a small Ohio city, I remember my mother use to pickle fruit and vegetables this was late '50s. In our garage you would find several pickle jars full of peaches, pears and other fruit. I never thought about it, just thought all moms did this.Wasn't until reading this book that I begin to understand why. My mom was doing her part for the war effort. Even 11 years after the war ended, she was still doing her part.I've read about the war and watch war movies, but nowhere did these mention the woman's part. Glade someone did.

This is a real history book. My own mother worked in the Norden Bomb sight factory during WWII while neighbors looked after me. In those days most Americans looked after each other while the fathers, sons, uncles, brothers and the husbands were off at war. Mine father was in Europe. The newer generations are not aware of the sacrifices of the women during WWII. Had it not been for them joining the effort we would have used many more men and many would not have survive. Great job by some brave women.

Bought this for a college paper. I usually can't stand reading for school work (since it usually doesn't fit my typical tastes) but I REALLY enjoyed reading this! It covers so much more than just women on the homefront and women in the military. This book chronicles even the darker aspects of female involvement, including the prostitutes that followed the soldiers' travels to training camps and posts across the country. It thoroughly discusses the womens' workforce movement, including the adversity and even dangers they faced to do the jobs vacated by the men and created by the war effort. Pretty good read, I recommend it to anyone interested in anything WW2 related, and especially those looking for the empowerment of female military members, and the poignancy of the women left behind.

This is a riveting, exhaustive account of the many roles played by women - at home and abroad - during World War II. As a young child at the time, it helps me understand what my mother endured as the wife of a foot soldier fighting in France. She moved back home to her parents' house, and returned to teaching during this period, There were Victory gardens, rationing (I still have a couple ration books) and constant worry. This was truly the greatest generation. I highly recommend this book.

I purchased this book for a college class, Women in WWII. I am a history major, but lean towards American History more than anything else. Out of all the books I had to get for this class, this one was my favorite. It brought stories from all walks of life into a cohesive narrative.

This book was great! I read my parents letters from WWII prior to reading the book, and found that it filled in so much of what was going on during those letters. Women played many roles during WWII, but we seem to only hear about "Rosie the Riveter." Not everyone was a Rosie, and this book examines the contribution of all women who served their country during WWII--whether on the farm at home or nursing with the Red Cross. The book not only speaks about the groups of women, but also has letters and interview information about various women in various roles about how their life played out during the war years. Great job!

From WACs to Rosies to traitors to spies and beyond, Emily Yellin spans the scope of women's roles in WWII. Research of this kind is difficult because it isn't the main focus of the war years, but Yellin does a beautiful job revealing what has been hidden and telling stories that illuminate the lives of half the American population. The personal connection is deftly woven into the larger context and makes for a satisfying whole. Well-worth the read.

Excellent account of the author's experiences flying the F117. There are very few books on this topic from a pilot's perspective... in fact, perhaps this is the only one? I appreciated that no doubt there were things not in the book which may have been 'no-go' areas for its author in order to have it published. His additional comments regarding how the war - excuse me, 'strikes' - were prosecuted were acutely interesting and, most understandably, depressing. It's said that many of the officers who were junior during Viet Nam felt that if they remained in the service and the future brought another conflict, they would by such time likely be in positions of authority and would never allow the ridiculous shenanigans perpetrated by civilian leaders to occur again. This is so and actions such as 'Shock & Awe' but one example. If you're going to fight... fight... don't nibble. Unfortunately, these lessons were forgotten or ignored when it came to Serbia.Highly recommended.

I'm not much of a reader, but this book had my attention the whole time. The author has a very "every-man" writing style that is easy to follow and fun to read. He has a wit and humor that had me chuckling to myself from time to time. He does a tremendous job of recording what it's like to be not only an F-117 pilot, but also a member of the Air Force's flying community. He caught both the excitement of real operations as well as the mundane aspects of exercises and office politics. He also gave me a new perspective on the war with the Serbs that I had not heard before. This was very eye opening and is an excellent read for anyone striving for a top ranking position in the US military.I fully enjoyed this book and would recommend it to anyone in the Air Force or anyone wanting to join the Air Force.EDIT 1: During some of my military training I actually got to meet one of the guys mentioned in the book: Speedy. He was a civilian and the only reason I bothered to ask if he ever flew F-117s was because he was wearing a "Black Sheep" lanyard. Having the book fresh in my head, I asked him about it. He was very quick to admit to having flown them and having known Lt Col O'Connor, the author of the book.Oh, and he had a lengthy defense about "never missing his target" despite blowing up a cemetery. He claimed he hit his target, but the computer was programmed wrong. We all had a good laugh. Most notably he told us quite a few stories that he said were deemed a bit too saucy for the book.All-in-all, these guys truly are larger than life and meeting one of them only made the book that much more real and enjoyable. Again, I highly recommend this book. It's amazing.

Outstanding read! Brings home the vagaries of peace time combat operations, especially when the brass jumps in and tries to drive the bus. Highly reminiscent of Vietnam and what was done over there by McNamara. O'Conner puts you in the seat with him for the good and the bad, and the ugly! This is one of those books that everyone who wants to be a fighter pilot or a combat pilot should read. It's not a sugarcoated version of the USAF, it's the reality of day to day operations, albeit with the F-117 and all that entailed.Highly recommended!

As a former A-10 pilot, I can attest to the authenticity of the anecdotes that LtCol O'Connor shares. While the F-117 is the aircraft described here, much of the story is applicable to any Air Force fighter aircraft. He captures the mood of squadron life, the issues with maintaining a relatively stable family life while doing a job that many people aspire to and few ever achieve. He also discusses the contributions of those whose duties are essential to the success of the mission, yet are rarely acknowledged. Fighter pilots get the glory, yet those of us honest enough to admit it realize we couldn't do it without the supporting cast. Overall, an excellent read, and highly recommended for fighter pilots as well as those who want to understand the man behind the mystique.

An awesome tale of flight and airmanship. Very much appreciated being able to read what life was like for a F-117 pilot, from attempting to find a decent home to learning to fly solo at the time the world's only stealth aircraft to feeling like I was in the F-117A cockpit about to bomb Serbia. That's the kind of writing I am happy to buy to the point this book should set the standard for future memoirs by military aviators...

It's almost impossible to find a worthwhile book on the F-117 and its mission. This one reads better than a novel. Much technical detail but not too much that it gets boring. This excellent aircraft was retired too soon and this book demonstrates how effective it accomplished its mission. It's too bad the Lockheed Martin Skunkworks can't duplicate the F-117 development with it's overpriced, behind schedule, underperforming turkey called the F-35.

Great story, very well written. O'Connor weaves an intriguing mix of his personal experience with the F-117 in both training and war with some of the military humor that kept them going. An old saying goes : A pilots worst enemies are altitude and runway, altitude above you and runway behind you. With this book, the readers worst enemy is pages already turned. If you like flying and flying stories, you are in for a real treat here.

I love reading and studying about history and especially recent history. The best part about this book is that it was written by an actual pilot that used to fly an F-117 and saw combat action in the plane. This book never had a dull moment and I didn't want the book to end. This is a well written book.
