Not long ago, at one of my talks, it was my life that was changed, and the secret that inspired me came from a stranger in the front row. I began my presentation by handing out blank postcards to everyone in the auditorium. I invited each person to anonymously write down a secret on a card and then pass it on. For the next hour, the postcards circulated and were read silently multiple times. At the end of my talk, I asked if anyone would like to stand and read the secret they were holding at that moment. A man in the front row stood up and haltingly read: I wish I could apologize to my younger brother for the way I treated him growing up. At this point, I think it probably is of little worth to try to convince someone to look at a book like this. If you liked previous PostSecret books, then you will probably like this one. If you didn't like the previous books, this one is not likely to change your mind. They are all essentially the same.If this one does stand out from the others, it is because it seems more planned than the previous volumes. Instead of a random or even thematically linked series of postcards, this volume attempts to tell a story--the story of a life through secrets. Granted, these secrets could not all come from the same life; however, there is a progression in them that does give the impression of a life story.I am a great fan of the PostSecret project. Though I have never felt bogged down by secrets in my own life, something about these postcards speaks to me. I hope these books continue to appear.

A Book Too BeautigulStunning, heartbreaking, uplifting, beautiful, ugly, compassionate, repulsive, angry, regretful. Reading this book is like poetry or listening to a symphony. There are crashes and crescendos. Rises and falls. It's a beautiful book filled with beautiful words. From the funny to the very serious, they are ALL of them worth so much more than the sum of their parts. Congratulations, Frank Warren and PostSecret.com for all the years and years of joyful entertainment.

I absolutely LOVED Post Secret and used to read it on a weekly basis, but time got away from me and I stopped. :( However, this book gives you some of the best, and it is a great read! It is fascinating to read other people's anonymous thoughts right there in a book, never knowing who actually sent them in. It makes me wonder if any of those I read are people I know, as some hit quite close to home! Great read, and I definitely recommend it!

 I am sure the book is probably great, but I bought this one used and since Recover Books had decent reviews I thought this wouldn’t be an issue. Most of the pages have letters and words completely cut out and other pages have quarter and half pages missing. For “Good” condition I at least expect the pages to be readable; damaged, but readable. Be returning this one.

This book has an unusual history. It began as a community where people were encouraged to send in their secrets anonymously on one side of a postcard. The key word - Anonymous. This struck a chord in many, allowing them a way to let loose a wealth of pent-up emotions and desires, from funny to grotesque. It also struck a chord in people who read the Blog site and watched videos of some of the secret scenarios. From there, a series of books has emerged and this is the latest. Think of it - starting from anonymous postcards to build into a popular Blog and now this book. Okay, I'm sure you want to know about the secrets in the book. Writing from a personal perspective, I got vicarious satisfaction from reading about urges that some people had (for revenge or to satisfy a desire) that I'd also shared. People wrote of having affairs for revenge, of unrequited love, of taking LSD at Disneyland and having sheer terror. One of the most amazing things about this book? How touching it can be to read of all the hidden emotions that people rarely feel comfortable talking about -even to their closest friends. It is a confession, of sorts, sent out to the world. Some people have come forward and told me of postcards they've sent and of how "relieved" or "lighter" they'd felt afterwards so I think my confession analogy isn't off base - in some instances. This is a fascinating and evolving community and project and the book is a rare chance to get a glimpse of what is often hidden behind social conventions. I urge you to have a look at this one!

I've been reading the PostSecret blog ever since its debut, i guess... And i kind of remember the feeling it gave me the first time i read it or understood the proposal of the website. It was like, revealing. I could feel this awkwardness of getting so deep in touch with strangers, trough their secrets, a very surprising intimacy. It was really good, very moving.But as it happens in every aspect of life, after i became a constant visitor to the blog, i gradually lost that surprise effect and got used to that expected level of emotion... Even though i still loved the site, it became usual to me.Then i got this book. It's the first one i've got. As i went through its pages i felt that primary feeling growing back inside me. The arrangement of secrets along a timeline, covering a whole lifetime, gave the chance to watch the growth of a person, sometimes myself. Near the end there was this strange impression that i had a child, who i watched grow old, loved, understood and identified with myself, as if we had spent our lives together, gone through loving, funny, scary and sad moments, and moved on. Through these time steps i could feel again that first surrender emotion, as if i had given myself completely to another person. I can only imagine what it feels like to those who actually share a secret.It really is a great book, even with such few words... Which, actually, with the help of the personal artwork, brings a level of "straightness" that rarely appears on real books. The story (there is, indeed, a story) seems much more real and tangible than many novels, and this ability to see ourselves in those secrets is key to this book. That's what moves us so much.Now that i've fully read it (which didn't take long, being so compelling), the book lays on my coffe table just waiting for me to want to remember. It kinda works now as a family album. Whenever i feel nostalgic i can open it and take me to my memories. It'll even take me to the future!Well... I hope that whoever reads this gets to understand my english. And if you already like the blog and is thinking about getting this book, i trully recommend it! ;D

This book has numerous inspiring photos and detailed descriptions of different garden styles, garden elements, and (of course) native trees, shrubs, vines, and ground covers. Authors provide creative strategies for landscaping using many types of hardscape materials and structures. This book is an essential and substantial resource for beginners as well as experienced gardeners.

I work as a landscape designer and already had five books on California natives when this book can out, which seemed more than enough to use as useful resources on the subject. But when I saw Greg Rubin had written a book, I had to have it. He has built quite a reputation as a native garden guru in Southern California and his knowledge on the subject is noteworthy. The book is quite informative with many good photos of his gardens. More importantly, his insights on how to set up native gardens and which species work best is critical to designing with these temperamental plants. This is a wonderful resource.

Wow - what an extraordinary book by Greg Rubin and Lucy Warren! With a study in diversity and a compelling case for native plants, they lead the charge. They go on to share soil, design, installation, maintenance, pest & disease and weed information. They also include a lengthy plant selection section and for each species, they include: a nice, detailed description, the plant community the species can be found within, landscape usage information for the species and a gorgeous color photo showing the species. Finally, they share fire information and wealth of resources. Highly recommend this book! Thank you, Greg and Lucy!

We are redoing our back yard this year, eliminating grass and planting Native. This book has become our bible to that end. Not only does it have an extensive listing of native plants, it has guided us in a step by step process in laying out the yard, installing the plants, caring for the garden and even suggests other decorative details. Most of us in the West rely upon the Sunset Garden Book for our plant information. The California Native Landscape narrows down the information specifically for the environmentally friendly Native Garden! We couldn't have done the yard without this book!!!

This is an excellent book on native gardening in Southern California. The photographs and layout are beautiful, with reasonable font size. For some reason native gardening books always seem to have crazy small font. Anyway, the content is extremely useful including fire landscaping, installation, design ideas, maintenance of the plants, irrigation, notes on plants for different locations, etc. I'm really happy with this book and breadth of information.

Southern California has its own climate and native plants. If you come here from elsewehre in the USA (as we did) you may not know how to deal with California's seasons and plant life (as we didn't). This book will be very helpful as we move to transform our yard to something water-wise and plant-friendly.

While I liked the somewhat (but not off-putting) scientific explanation of what has happened to our soils because of non-natives, overgrazing, petroleum based ferts, etc., I did have the thought that this might lose a few readers who might get to bogged down. Most everything is well explained and this really should be required reading for all who want to take a step in the direction of restoring their little bit of the ecosystem and do it with some basis in truth and not just lip service. There is enough info in this book to have been a series, with more photos and subjects under the recommended and reviewed actual landscape specimens.

A real eye opener - definitely changed my thinking about landscaping. I bought it because I wanted to learn more options in planting, during this long California drought - and found the book very informative and interesting. I am not a landscaper - this is just for my own home landscape, but definitely looking at only natives in the future.

Difficult to read at first. Then, I read a lot of writings of transgender people and caught onto the world view and the vocabulary to go along with it, and it got easier to read. I personally found her analysis of gender to be shallow, but since she speaks for many people in the transgender movement, it is an important book to be aware of.

A really great book regarding moving past gender stereotyping (and so much more).

Revelatory work of philosophy. A must-read for any post-modernist.

This is a highly readible bunch of essays illustrating Butler's thought. It's a great introduction to her for laymen that do not necessarily read technical jargon (scholareze) easily.

Really 3.5.... Ok read just not what I expected. From the title I expected this to be steamy, erotic thriller. Nope more like contemporary romance. Last couple books from author has been different from previous work. This book started well with sparks here and there. Once it got the the end secrets revealed were rushed through no true development. Left wondering. Maybe there’s a part 2? Hope author returns to her old writing style and not a replica of what’s out. Still will read other books to come because I’ve loved past books.

Ryleigh and King definitely had me in my feelings. Ryleigh had me ready to choke her at times but I'm glad King was able to break those walls down..wish it was a bit longer because they definitely had a bit more story to tell..but I loved it. I really hope Indigo gets a story so she can find some happiness. I'm rooting for her. Great book and can't wait for the next one!! ☺☺

Ryleigh was so damn stubborn that she was pissing me off. Like you got a freaking unicorn of a man in your presence and you letting him slip by!! Like WTF!! And those steamy sex scenes will have you ready to get in the moody automatically. I loved the flow of the story from beginning to end. Alvin and Dawna were foul and in my eyes made the wrong move so that they wouldn't be held accountable for their actions. I was floored at that chapter because to me, it didnt take all of that. Again that my personal view. Overall, this was a great read and not my last from this author!

I’m so upset I’ve been bamboozled. I need more the story seems so incomplete 😩😩. I need to know that Indigo finds love after that f boy. Ryliegh had me hotter than fish grease. I was like girlfriend if you don’t stop playing with that man. You can’t judge one person off the actions of someone else. Birds of a feather don’t always flock together trust. King was bae! Had me like where can I find him at. I felt what Dawna did was the cowards way out. Accept responsibility for your actions apologize and keep it pushing. Admit what you did to her face. Spectacular job.

I wish we could do 1/2 stars because it's not that I didn't like it, but was less than OKas a teenage gay guy growing up in Ohio in the 70's and 80's, I dreamed of going to New York City and ESPECIALLY to Studio 54. I would look in all the newspapers and magazines for any of the photos of people dancing and partying there.In the years after I watched documentaries and films and read so much about 54 in its heyday. I was very excited to see that this book had been written about the restart of 54 that I preordered it.While some interesting stories about the club and the beautiful people that partied there, author Mark Fleishman always feels the need to insert stories of his own partying that really takes away from the inside that the book promises. And hearing so many stories of the women he was able to bang became tiresome. About 3/4s of the way thru the book - Studio 54 is sold the book becomes Fleischman's autobiography. Which becomes VERY tedious.I bought the book to read about Studio 54 and that's what I would have liked to have ended the last 50 pages of the book with.A let down

Ok at first. Good stories to share. As Chapters progressed, it becomes less and less about Studio, and more and more about Mark. Guess he never ran out of drugs and available sex, but ran out of Studio stories!

I have to blame myself for this one. I was curious as to what it was like visiting Studio 54. I've always been fascinated by the history of it and what made it such a good time to such big names. When I bought "Inside Studio 54" I imagined hearing all the juicy stories and genius planning that made the club what it was. This book ended up being that- just way too much of it. If you're interested in all the sex and cocaine the owner of the club did, then this is your book. And while there's nothing wrong with those stories, I'd like a little more than just that. This book could be cut in half and would be much, much better.

Good story, but it got a bit boring. I love details as much as the next person, but this was a bit much. Give me details of the goings on inside the club. That would make this sensational

Mark Fleischman's book gives readers a front row seat to the hedonistic lifestyle of the decadent 70's, 80's, and even part of the 90's in US culture that was epitomized by the Studio 54 scene. It's hard to believe that Fleischman himself dived so deeply and emerged from this hedonistic culture unscathed, or relatively unscathed, but I suppose that is what continues to be the allure of living life on the edge--you might just get away from it if you are astute enough to know when to leave the party, or are fortunate enough to experience an epiphany while at a luxurious island rehap. Really? Despite the subtle subtext that all of us who lived in these decades wish we could have kept the party going on forever with no reprecussions, this book manages to be endlessly entertaining and mildly addictive.

This book was OK. The author tended to get to be repetitive, particularly when he was describing his metamorphosis away from drugs and drinking. There were multiple pages I skipped over without losing the story line. By the end of the book, I was glad it was over.

Fun memories of the 70s and the people who were having much more fun than I was!

I'm back in school getting another degree after graduating over two decades ago. I'd never written a paper in APA format, I'd never heard of it and I'm not sure it even existed the last time I wrote a paper. Then I find myself being assigned to write TWO papers requiring use of APA format in my first semester after returning to school.The instructors provided a link to an APA site, but all that did for me was give me an idea of how much I'd have to learn! I ordered this book in somewhat of a panic. It turned out to be more geared to APA newbies like me, and also much more descriptive of how to do pretty much everything than the website was.I flipped back and forth through the book constantly (the advantage of print over a website) while typing. Got a 97 on one paper and a 98 on the other 😊 Thanks, Scott!

I have been using this book for several years as I plod through my Master's. Clear, everything works, and for people like me who just can NOT retain stuff that seems like it's irrelevant to my field of interest and could easily be handled by any competent editor if I ever do write something worth publishing, this gives me the tools to get my papers properly formatted and make my nitpicky rule following professors at least not downgrade me for picayune little stuff unworthy of my great and unique intellect.

Matkovich did a wonderful job compiling a good manual for students to refer to when writing an essay. However, he left out a major citation reference: motion pictures, videos, and the like.I appreciate him incorporating "social media" type references into his handbook, but using such a source in an essay at the higher education level is looked down upon by 99.99% of professors.Within that large percentage of professors, are the one's requiring you to use APA format. So I feel there really wasn't a point in wasting room in the handbook for something like this.He really explains how to utilize the heading of your essay which is very helpful. All in all, it's a good reference book with great examples to help you set up your citations.

This book has been a godsend of clarity and simplicity and a great support to my teaching about APA. It's easy for students to carry with them and inexpensive, which were two of my goals. I was poverty stricken in college and the handbook my department offers is $120! APA style can be confusing and using the recommended APA Handbook (6th ed.) can be frustrating. I was able to cite or reference my work with ease using this handbook. I think it is a "must have" for anyone conducting graduate research or coursework.

I tutor at the local college. APA is required of my nursing and social science majors. I am suggesting the purchase of this guide to all my students. I am also suggesting this guide to the college for their writing labs, as all tutors are not created equally.

Arrived new as pictured and described. Would order from in future. Book published in 2015, so only includes Word document set up to 2013 (not too many major changes that it would affect with newer versions, in my opinion). All in all a very good buy for students wanting to perfect their APA writing.

I'm an adult learner returning for new college course work with a decade since my last degree and I needed to brush up on APA. I use APA in my professional writing in the science field, but I have to admit I use a limited number of sources and sometimes I mixed up MLA & APA. After the first "warm-up" paper the professor tossed at us I knew scanning the Purdue cite and the others APA Help sites were not going to cut it for the level of excellence I wanted in my work. I read the reviews on this book and gave it a shot. The author gets his ideas across in a down to earth manner, not talking over or around the reader. It doesn't have an exhaustive reference and cite example section, so I did buy the APA manual along with this book... but trust me, APA Made Easy helps you knockout the proper form, were the Manual gives directions for literature majors and the field. For the price, this little book is well worth what I paid.
