The book arrived today. Had forgotten I ordered it so long ago. It is WONDERFUL. I LOVE IT! The style is friendly, not patronizing, and kind and helpful. Being older I have lived and am living through some of the examples presented. I have been the recipient of some of the comments described and I am sure I have also committed some lollapaloozers in turn. But! This book is like a friend talking straight to you. The kindness warmed my heart and soul. Am going to order 5 copies now for daughters and some special friends.

OBSESSED. I literally buy Emily's cards in BULK. They just say exactly what needs to be said. When she announced her book, I was first in line. It doesn't disappoint. Funny, full of truth and easy to read. I am positive I'll be buying this book for friends.

Just to be clear, this is for a kindle edition read on a 7th Gen Kindle.I really like the book and the style. The insights offered are very helpful for being there for people going through tough times. Honestly, it is also helpful for someone who is going through a tough time to help understand why some people disappear.The only reason why I can't give this a 5 star is because the formatting of the kindle edition just doesn't work with the kindle. Many of the special charts (like the Empathy Menu) are unreadable with text going off the screen (and no way to scroll to it). Additionally, navigating when an entire page is just a chart is painful.

Such good stuff - honest and hard. The pictures and illustrations are so great you want to flip fast through it, but the compelling text brings you back

...but there is a good book that can help you be a good presence in the life of someone you care about who has suffered loss and/or a setback, and this is it. It walks through what is genuinely helpful and what is not to say in different situations, and does so clearly and understandably. The one recurring theme is to counter the three most common self-hindering views when talking to someone who has suffered a loss/setback- I don't know how, I don't know what to say, and I don't have the bandwidth- with three more helpful views- My kindness is my credential, listening speaks volumes, and small gestures make a big difference. Highly recommended.

I totally picked up this book along the Amazon cookie crumb trail and was delighted at how good it was. It is written by 2 women. One has started her own Empathy Boot Camps and the other this awesome line of greeting cards. I loved the visuals incorporated with the book. I loved the candor and honesty. And I loved all of the tips. It is so hard to figure out what to say, how to help, and how to handle situations with people that have chronic illness, have experienced loss, or even divorce, death, etc… and this book expertly walks you through a variety of scenarios and provides a multitude of tips and best practices for navigating each. I found myself highlighting throughout the book. Honestly, the more I read it… the more I wanted to share about it with others. This book isn’t just for friends and family but also coworkers and even bosses as all of us could stand to benefit from how to communicate with empathy. Many thanks Kelsey and Emily! Well done!!! I don't know whether I manage to say the right thing as often as I think I do, but I doubt it. Hearing about how what you are about to say will sound to someone else can seem just about impossible. Realizing how what you said actually sounded after you say it is a little easier but a lot less useful. I made a real blunder yesterday and I am still not sure if I can fix it. So I read this book today, hoping to get some ideas. The main thing that I got out of reading this book is a reminder that every one of us that tries to talk to others about tough subjects occasionally blows it, but that is no reason to not keep trying, because in the long run most of us do a lot more good than harm when we try to talk about the tough part of life in a kind and sincere and thoughtful way, and that when we do blow it, it helps to admit that we think we said the wrong thing,and maybe that we did not mean what it sounded like we meant, if we really did not mean what we actually said.I still haven't figured out what to say instead of what I actually said, but if I cannot figure out what to say instead by tomorrow, I will admit that I said the wrong thing, and that I still cannot figure out the right thing to say, but what I said was definitely not what I meant, and I am very sorry that I said it. I hope that my friend will understand eventually.

This is a breath of fresh air. This book is conversational and thoughtful and makes you laugh (Emily is hilarious) and cry (Kelsey is so insightful). It's full of insightful questions and recommendations with playful art and illustrations peppered throughout. If you want to learn how to be a better human, this is a great place to start.

Wow! This was an incredible story, at first I thought it may be boring, but I was so wrong. The depth was fantastic and the emotions so real. The hero was pretty foolish, but men can be quite foolish when it comes to infatuation and passion. So in reality it was realistic.I liked that the heroine, despite her insecurities, in the end stood up for herself.This book was a true clean regency. I would have loved a little more as an epilogue or something, but still it ended fine.Then when I read about the author I was shocked she is from my own home city! Nice surprise. As Alaska is not topically where you expect a great regency author to reside.Keep up the quality writing. So glad I found this author. I hope all her books are clean and well thought out like this one.

I really enjoyed this story. It was well thought out with a lot of heart and the imperfections in the characters made them more endearing. The hero makes some mistakes that many people can relate to, and I love that the heroine was not the tiny beauty that is commonly found. I felt I had to give 4 stars rather than 5 because of all the American expressions that crept in (eg. horseback riding instead of horse riding, jelly instead of jam, aunt instead of auntie), but ignoring those very minor things is worth it for the depth the story has. The theme of love being clearly differentiated from it’s alternative imitations was refreshing and thought provoking. Also the heroine’s insecurities were so accurate of someone whose confidence has been repeatedly knocked down. I have known people of that personality type and often wished they would stand up for themselves as Mina eventually does.

Excellent story with believable characters. My only reason for knocking off a star was I wanted MORE! There was soooo much struggle in this book, the ending left you feeling like it didn’t heal the battering you went through while reading the book. An epilogue or something is needed to give complete satisfaction to the story. I will definitely read this author’s work again!

I'm not much of a romance reader, but I heard such great things about this book from a few family members and so I gave it a try and oh my goodness!!!! So sweet and so good. I loved this interesting idea of the book, such an interesting take on love. I loved that the author wrote real characters and not perfect angels and white knight. They were good, but real people who you get to see evolve and cheer on, or shake your head at. I feel like this story broke a bit of the boring ol love story cycles that we watch or read over and over again. By the end, I had a hard time putting the book down and getting to what I need to be doing.

I really liked this book despite reading some bad reviews. Although Simon could seem like a monumental idiot at times, he meant well and came through in the end. I loved the slow burning relationship with Mena who was an absolute doll. A lovely and enjoyable read.

The only reason this book get four stars is because the author repeats a lot of information in the first half of the book. I found myself skipping over paragraphs of unnecessary commentary. The second half reads much better and is truly a charming story!

Four stars, it was a book about a flaw woman Mona and an equally flaw man Simon..How they had to conquer their weaknesses to find the love for each other at the end..Although she was too forgiving and nice to him at the end.

This is a first read for me and this author; I don’t know if she’s written anything else, but I would love to read more. This was a very sweet love story, and I’m glad I gave this lovely book a try.

I got this because I live in a NASA stronghold and I figured my kids' school library could use a copy. I expected what I've seen in a lot of topic-driven kids' books, which is a mismatch between the topic, the illustrations, the volume of the text, and the complexity of the vocabulary - writing children's books is harder than it looks! So many authors over-explain things and end up with a paragraph a page, which is way too much for a picture book.I was pleasantly surprised, then, that this story hit a great sweet spot between "educational" and "short/simple enough for kids to understand." My 6yo was happy for me to read the whole thing to her in one sitting, but on further reads I was able to get her to ask me more questions and we talked about aspects of the story that interested in her. This would still make for a too-long storytime book for a class, probably, but I'd guess most middle elementary readers who were interested in the topic could make their way through it just fine.

I love the information that it gives. I was honestly pulled in by the picture. This book is one that gives a lot of facts which is great. And the pictures are cool. But even my kid who loves space just could not sit down even for the pictures. There are A LOT of pages. I don’t know why, but I was under the impression that there would be more of a “story” giving rover more “life.” Sure the author refers to The rover as a he instead of an “it,” butbthats just not good enough. It’s kind of like reading an almanac to a child.

What a fantastic book! The graphics are stunning and the story is written in a straightforward way that does not condescend to the reader. I hope that this author creates more books like this to inform and inspire young scientists and engineers.

The book explains that whilst men have walked on the moon and lived in space, at the moment Mars is too far to send humans, so robots are having to do the discovering instead.Scientist believe that Mars was once a warm planet with rivers and even an ocean, but today it is cold and inhospitable. NASA wanted to know why there was a change, so Curiosity (amongst other rovers), was sent to investigate.I love how this book is told from the point of view of the little robot, it makes you feel like you are reading about a real person, although in some ways Curiosity is far more advanced than any human could ever be.The book is filled to the brim with absolutely amazing images that are dark in colour, as dark colours represent space. The full page illustrations surround an inspirational true story of how Curiosity came to be, how it was named, what its job is and about the red planet too. At the back there is also a timeline about all the Mars Rovers and a glossary too.Curiosity combines a great story with educational facts, it would be the perfect book for a school library as well as one to have at home. For those children who are interested in space, this book is a must buy. I only buy products that I will actually use and test to give fair feedback on. I also only give a 5 star rating when the product is excellent and deserves such a rating. I base my review on overall quality, use, and if it meets the description given by the seller. If I feel that I can't honestly give at least a 4 or 5 star rating then I contact the seller and try to resolve the problem first to see if there is anything than can be done that would remedy the situation. Sometimes there are only so many things you can say about a product, so I try to be as direct as possible. You can trust that my reviews are not only for the sellers benefit but for other customers interested in purchasing this product as well.

Overall, a very informative book with some great shots of the sites. Unfortunately, I was hoping for more recommendations in the upper northeast. But, I would highly recommend it for other regions of the country. I'm sure it will be beneficial for my future trips.

A good book but not of use to me.

National Geographic has collected six hundred "international" trips that you can take right at home in the United States and Canada in "Abroad At Home: The 600 Best International Travel Experiences In North America." This book breaks down North America into six distinct regions: 1) Northeast, 2) South, 3) Heartland, 4) West, 5) Northwest, and 6) Canada. Each region is then broken down into topics like what to eat, what to see, and an "Essentials" section for each highlighted town or region.Breaking them down even more, each international destination has cultural highlights (for example, meditation in Asian regions) that are given lists, specific places to visit, and things to do. Individual stories are highlighted in sidebar stories called "My Neighborhood."As always, National Geographic is on top when it comes to photographs of the different sights, festivals, and places that are covered in this book. The text is enjoyable to read and easy to follow. There is also a list by heritage that can be used to quickly pick out a specific culture that you would like to explore. For instance, if you want to check out Greek culture, the list gives you eleven places to venture to to experience a bit of Greece.The only major drawback that I find with this book is a similar drawback that I find it most books like this one. While the list is excellent, it completely breezes over smaller, lesser well known events and places and goes for your standard tourist spots. For example, Lafayette and New Orleans are listed as places for a Cajun experience. While Lafayette definitely falls into that category, New Orleans doesn't. It's a much more international city. The only other city mentioned (and only in passing) is Eunice, LA, which is definitely a LOT more Cajun than New Orleans.Another drawback of this book is that it is very general at times and too specific at others. The book struggles to find a happy balance between too much information and not enough details.Overall, though, this is an excellent book to be used to fire off an "international" trip right at home.

There are just too many errors I keep coming across. The latest is Exercise 6-1, Step 4. This wants us to INSERT into the orders table, yet we've created ZERO customers on the customer table. Why is this an issue? Because we have a FK on the orders table and a PK on the customers table and this prevents any orders from being created where there are no valid (corresponding) customers (as in customer_id). There are many more examples that I have, but this generally sums it up.Also, the installation portions of this are piss poor as well as I spent several nights on google trying to figure out how to overcome this. They need to re-issue with MANY corrections and get a better review system in place before sending out trash that will hurt us in certification pursuits! Also, emailing support is useless as they are slow (in my case) and they CC in people on emails who don't respond (also in my case).

Very well written and lots of examples to practice from. I like that included is a PDF of the book so I can look at the the answer to the quizzes without having to flip back and forth between the pages.
