This is a very basic criminal justice text. It broadly covers most areas of criminal justice system, including (but not limited to) law enforcement, corrections, court systems, historical applications, current theories, and trend data.I'd recommend this book to anyone that's unsure if they'd like to pursue a career in criminal justice, or if you're unsure which area to specialize in. If you're looking for a book that's focuses strictly on law enforcement, there are probably better texts for you.Also, what sets this book apart from me is the structure. It's very well organized and the layout is great. Makes it very easy to take notes from and retain information.

This is a review of the epic boxed set “the Witcher” by Polish author, Andrzej Sapkowski. It contains three self-contained, but related books: “the Time of Contempt”, “Blood of Elves,” and “Baptism of Fire.”Like many American gamers, my first exposure to the Witcher series and the title character, Geralt, was via the extraordinary video games by Projekt Red, a Polish Game Design company.Little did I know that there was a huge franchise based on the Witcher novels that made Sapkowski a household name in Eastern Europe even before the fall of the Berlin Wall.If we’re honest, games and movies generally fall short of the emotional impact of the books they are based on. In this case though, the game matches the books almost perfectly. This is not an indictment of the books, rather it is extremely high praise for both the books and the games.This was a incredible job by both the game team, by the author, and by the English translators of both the game and the book. Truly phenomenal!The three book series takes us across the story arc of Geralt (the Witcher), the Child of Chance (AKA the Child of Elder Blood, Ciri), Tres (love interest of Geralt and powerful sorceress), and Yennefer (ancient sorceress with a hidden agenda, first love interest of Geralt, and foster mother of Ciri).I could go into great detail about the plots in each of the books, but as the title of the review suggests, the story arc is epic and involves millennia of time and the machinations of gods and all the intelligent races as well as some surprisingly specific prophecies.Learning about the history of Sapkowski’s world building masterpiece first hand as we strolled through the novels with the characters was my favorite part of the books. Sapkowski has a wicked sense of irony and humor in general, and it comes through in deadpan delivery throughout the books.This is not going to be a weekend read for most folks. It took me two months to work through the novels; you are not going to want to rush the experience.One caveat, being wholly honest, the several chapters in the second and third books devoted to genealogy and court intrigue were not the highlights of the series for me, but I know that some folks will treasure every moment of the exposition of the bloodlines and skullduggery.Most of my reviews have a “spoilers section,” but this would be inappropriate with this boxed set. If you are a fan of gritty, low fantasy worlds then you owe it to yourself to read this set of novels.As a parent, be aware that there is extensive use of adult/”salty” language (this seems to increase from book one to two to three), and there are some adult situations. You might want to read the books first (they are a fun read in any event), and be ready to talk with your ward about some of the events in the books.In the interest of complete disclosure, I have to believe that some of (at least the English translation of) the books has been “updated” based on current social values and social justice. It would be hard to imagine that the originals had the same very “progressive” feel to them, and to be honest it jars the “suspension of disbelief” more than a little as the values conflict directly with the rest of the gothic/medieval world and social structure that Sapkowski carefully crafted. (In other words, rather than reinforce the intrinsic value of such beliefs, the manifestations of the beliefs in the books appear to be anachronistic and poorly constructed – likely the opposite of the desired effect.) As a reader, be mentally prepared for the “bolt-tons,” and as a parent, be ready to talk about the differences between the gritty harsh world of the Witcher and our current cosmopolitan existence.All in all, an excellent series for the Young Adult and Adult fantasy markets, and could provide engaging reading for the younger fantasy fans if the parents feel the less experience readers are ready for the material.

This is one of the best series I've read in a long time. I often find myself during my free time slipping away to read the work of Mr. Sapowski and losing myself in the world that he has created. A world set in a time of medieval Kings, their politics and their wars, as the backdrop to a much deeper story wrapped within the magic and folklore that was fleshed out in the previous books: The Last Wish and Sword of Destiny. This world of humans and non-humans and their harsh realities intertwine with the story of the main character and his destiny. Geralt is a fierce warrior when he needs to be yet his neutrality often paints him as a patient and wise observer of the cruel world of which he inhabits. He is not infallible, however, and his fate so often leads him towards difficult positions which force him outside of his comfort zone and sees him dealing with the aftermath of his own decisions. I do not wish to deprive you of the chance to discover this world for yourselves and therefore I hope you purchase this and enjoy it as much as I have. I would like to add, however, that this is only books one through three and therefore you must purchase The Tower of Swallows and Lady of the Lake separately to complete the story.On a different note: The shipping of this and a separate order with two other Witcher books I ordered did not arrive in the best shape. Be aware that the packaging and protection used may be minimal at best. If you wish them to be in perfect condition then I suggest looking to your local bookstore.

I first heard about the Witcher via the video game series. I was only peripherally aware of the first game (The Witcher Enhanced - PC), though I have since gone back and played a bit of it. I played some of the second (The Witcher 2: Assassins Of Kings Enhanced Edition) but got distracted and never finished. I am "this close" to finishing the third (The Witcher 3 Game of the Year Edition (Xbox One)). There are some definite differences between the games and the worlds outlined in these books, although fans of the games will definitely recognize most (if not all) of the key characters, and have a fair idea of what to expect. These books make an EXCELLENT read for anyone interested in Geralt's world, and looking for a deeper look at the lives of the key players of the games, such as Ciri, Triss, Yennifer, Dandelion and of course Geralt.For those who are NOT familiar with the game and who are thus coming into this series relatively blind - buckle up. You are in for quite the ride. Bumpy at times, but I feel worth it.The books are well written and the descriptions are evocative, a fact which is made more impressive given that English is not the language or origin. There is some political intrigue, some racial tension (humans, elves, dwarves, and gnomes), tight action, some light humor, and interesting character exploration. Speaking of interesting characters, there are a LOT of them; each with their own personality, agenda, and methods. The world they inhabit is intriguing and rich, although there are many things that are not as well described as I expected. In some cases this leaves an air of mystery, that hint of "just enough" being told. However, in other cases I feel like had I not learned some of the greater story from the games, I might have felt confused. It is difficult to isolate the broader knowledge of the universe I have from those sources, and the way these books are written.The story continues past these books, so expect a fair number of unresolved plot threads. Not EXACTLY a cliffhanger, but I definitely am eager to learn what happens next.If you like fantasy, give this a go, I doubt you will be disappointed.

This is a perfect gift for the out-of-the-box thinker in your house. I gave this to my 10 year old on his birthday and he loves picking out projects and going online to code. There's a lot of additional materials you'll need to complete each project, so my advice would be to plan ahead (unless you have a great network of stores nearby) but once you have everything in place, the projects are creative and exciting.

This is a great book at a great price for a great little device - the Makey Makey. Many of the projects are on the advanced end, but don't be alarmed by that. The authors have done a great job documenting the projects and providing great instructions both for the physical builds and for the bits of coding that are sometimes required (usually in Scratch - a free, easy, visual programming language). The book also includes several projects using the Makey Go, the Makey Makey's smaller cousin.

Son loves this book. Wants to learn to solder now.

As a teacher, this is a great book! Over the head of 8 year olds though. Better for 10+

I love that there was a companion book for the makey makey. But for my 5 & 8 year old I should have done a bit more research. I was looking for simple ways to use the makey makey. This has some fairly elaborate projects. It’s not a one size fits all. I’d love to see a book like this dedicated to different skill/age levels. Unfortunately I won’t be able to use most of this book and it’s too late to return.

I gave this to my 13 year old nephew for Christmas. He loves all of the projects!

This book is easy to follow and provides some really creative and fun projects.I can't wait to use them and to see what other projects are inspired through those offered.

Jonathan Kellerman's mastery of the English language is superb! As an English major and writer myself, I admire his original and imaginative similes and metaphors. Unfortunately, the plot of this book contains many characters, several of which have last names beginning with the letter "H." The plot is also convoluted and sometimes becomes muddy. I have read some of his later books, and they seem tighter.

Enjoyed following Alex on his own again as he was in Blood Test. Always tough to put down but I don't want the time with these good guys to go by too fast!The extent of these "men's" crimes is the worst of the worst, we all know it happens. I have to say that I can do without comments and narrative by these soulless people in the book. We all get the gist, extra sensitive details are not necessary.It won't stop me from reading, because even though there is bad in the world, good guys win in the end...always

This was my first novel by this author. It kept me interested enough to read on and see if they would catch the strange band of pedophiles. I was appalled with the subject matter of this crime so found myself skimming and hurrying through to get the villains caught. Since Alex Delaware is a psychologist and not a policeman, it was odd in some ways how he was brought into the case by his policeman friend, Milo, but Alex seems like a likable protagonist with his sidekick, Milo, so I plan to read on and see how future cases go.

This is the first book in the Alex Delaware series by Jonathan Kellerman. I stumbled onto Kellerman after reading one of his newer books and didn't realize that he had a series! I am so excited because I had just finished reading through John King's books and was looking for a new author. This book is from a couple decades ago but it will not disappoint! If you like murder, mystery, suspense and enjoy thinking you've figured the end out and being proven wrong, You'll love this book!

Love Alex Delaware stories. Lov Milo too. Never got to read them in order. Now I able to. They are all great mystery stories, but the characters take them above the everyday. One thing, though, I also got the narration. This belongs in audible I suppose, but the voice belongs to Milo more then Alex.The descriptions are all done very well. Better than I could write them. Some sensitive issues are dealt with, but are handled with class and as much dignity as a book like this can be expected. It is a suspense thriller after all and I loved the ride. Kellerman is a top-notch story teller.

I have read all of the Alex Delaware novels and so has my husband. This is the first of those and is a wonderful read. The characters are fleshed out perfectly and the plot will keep yyou turning the page. I am not going to review the rest of his books, because it would be the same. Terrific, wonderful, a real page turner, you will fall in love with the characters, etc. Once you read the first one, you will want to read them all. Jonathan Kellerman is a terrific writer and brings his background to good use in all of his books. I have been pre-ordering his books for awhile now so I make sure to have a copy as soon as they come out. Do yourself a favor, read this one to start and then read the rest in order. You won't regret it. The only thing you might regret is finding shelf space for all of these books! If you can order the Kindle edition (I have only the most recent book on Kindle, the rest are hardbacks!) and they take up much less space. While I was waiting for a new book to be written I went back and re-read the entire series again! That is how good they are!

While the subject matter is disturbing, the truth is the need to protect children is out there. Mr. Letterman is a master at putting things into layman's terms so that you feel part of the action. Always amazing twist and turns that even the most proficient mystery solvers will be surprised.

About the Author

DR. CHUCK DIETZEN is a pediatric physical medicine and rehabilitation specialist, global medicine doctor, entrepreneur, medical professor, speaker, and former athlete. What a beautiful testimony from a man who is truly living out the culture of life! I read this at a pivotal time in our journey to adopt our son, and it gave me a lot of encouragement to press on without fear and to trust in God's plan for our family. Sometimes God asks us to do what we're most afraid of. It may not be the most logical choice in a worldly sense, but it brings deep and lasting joy. Thank you, Dr. Chuck, for your work and witness! May God reward you for your goodness!

I gave this book five stars for inspirational, understandable, real world content. It's engaging and easy to read. It speaks of one man's hopes and actions to affect change in the lives of children who are marginalised, and the people around them. It's a book of hope and humor and heart. Dr. Chuck is a real person, a down to earth person who is living his dream passionately. We should all be so blessed!

I'm so glad that Marie Kennedy told me about this wonderful book. Dr. Chuck Dietzen shares many of his experiences caring for children as well as the wisdom he has gained from those experiences. This is the kind of book to keep handy so you can read it more than once and ponder the many pearls of wisdom contained in this gem!

This is a fantastic book. It is so encouraging for those with disabilities. Dr. Dietzen is an inspiration to all. I highly recommend it.

When I found out that The Amazing World Of Gumball had a comic book series, I went to amazon and looked for comics. What I found was this, and I have to say that for a comic book based off of a TV show, it does an amazing (no pun intended) job at keeping me entertained. I have no idea why, but my favorite part about this comic is the illustrations. Everything is drawn in a different way, much like how the show uses 2d, 3d, and stop motion animation. The only things I didn't like about this was how some of the characters didn't act the way they would in the show, the ending is a bit cliché, and how Gumball's head is smaller than it is in the show (I really don't know why the size of his head bugs me).

My daughter is in the 3rd grade and had seen this book at a book fair and wanted it. When it arrived she was super excited and read it very quickly. Per my daughter the book was awesome.

grandchild was very pleased.

My 9 year old loves it!

My 8 year old loved this, it was his first comic book type of read.
