I love this book! There are so few resources out there for lesbians, but I'm happy to have stumbled upon this. There's so much valuable information to help lesbian couples, and great things to keep in mind even when single and looking for a relationship.

I am so fortunate to have met fortunate Ms. Right. I’m very grateful to the author because she has equipped me with the tools I need to make sure I don’t inadvertently do damage to this amazing gift of a partner.

Can't say enough good things about this book and I'm only into the 2nd chapter. Great for any couple, especially same sex couples. Highly recommend.

This is really a wonderful reference. Detailed and well written in a frank but compassionate way.I highly recommend it to anyone providing psychotherapy services to lesbians and of courselesbians themselves.

Glenda Corwin's book is without a doubt the most helpful available on this subject. She has done her own research, and comes down sensitively but clearly on the side of having sex in your long-term lesbian relationship! She then goes on to give practical advice on how to rekindle sexuality through making the conscious decision to take responsibility for your own turn-on and practice "24 hour foreplay." Throughout, her tone is highly readable and respectful. I highly recommend this book and plan to make a practice of giving it as a wedding gift to lesbian couples. 85% of them may need it someday, and Dr. Corwin's advice could save them years of frustration and heartache, breaking up, or settling for a sexless friendship.

My partner and I are reading this book together, and have found it to be extremely helpful. It is helping us work though issues we have and also opening our eyes to issues that we hadn't thought about. It's great to have a book catered to relationships between two women that deal with topics that don't come up in other intimacy guides.

The author absolutely nails some key topics around lesbian sex and intimacy, and more than once made me think of things in an entirely new way. I would recommend this to every lesbian friend of mine.Oddly, it is sprinkled with some pretty egregious editing "misses." These typos and inadvertent word switches take away from the overall point and seem eminently avoidable.

I was totally blown away by this book. It's answered so many questions I had that I never dreamed I'd find the answers to. I always thought I had issues that no one else had. It's a relief to find out I'm not the only one, and that there are solutions. I truly believe every female, both straight and lesbian, can gain insight from this book.

I read this in the midst of my 3rd visit to Haiti, as part of "my" 3rd medical mission with a team of 15 volunteers. Ms Willentz writes with wit and crisp narrative to describe the ironies of global assistance to Haiti. I'm back from my 5th trip to Haiti - and recommend this as valuable perspective on what may or may not get accomplished in a 'challenging' country like Haiti - or specifically to prepare for the non-linear world of working in Haiti.We were at the Guest House of Hopital St Croix in Leogane, epicenter of the earthquake, which is run by dedicated volunteer managers who host teams like ours doing mobile medical clinics out in the villages - or school projects etc. Then - manager, notre ami Robin of TX noted me reading the book, expressed interest because she'd heard of it - so I was glad to present it to her when I finished its gripping pages. Valuable perspective - bravo!

After spending some time in Haiti during the time of Baby Doc, I was looking forward to reading Amy Wilentz's latest book about that beautiful and troubled island. I did not disappoint. Her love and hope for Haiti and its people shine through every page. Well done. I highly recommend it to anybody who is interested in Haiti, its past, present, and future.

Like most of the Western World there is a mentality of ‘out of sight out of mind.’ Wilentz makes Haiti very much insight, in mind. It shares the personal accounts of Haitian culture, missionary workers, Doctors without Boarders, and the reporter who brings it all to us. It made Haiti hit home by pulling on the heartstrings of the innocent Haitian children victims to their surroundings. It merged the gap with the fables we tell kids to teach them a lesson and keep them safe; only instead of Snow White they had werewolves and voodoo. It made me respect those that give their life for a cause with solutions so far out of reach—yet they jump in. Great read with a blend of culture and humanity.

Accessible and engaging as both narrative of post earthquake Haiti and a summation of the author's 20 year history of traveling and writing on the country. The main crux of the book is that aid is not working as its delivered via NGO's and large development entities such as , IOM and USAID as it is inefficiently rendered and does not take include the Haitian people in the decision process. We meet a variety of characters both Haitian and "blan", foreign in Haiti and Haitian and there is a positive example of aid done right in the person of Dr. Megan Coffee who runs a TB word in Port au Prince. The section where she debunks the myth of the "planting the magical tree" that will save Haiti is funny but also succinctly captures the problem of outsiders coming to Haiti and offering solutions without considering the need, wants, or culture of the people they want to help. The book is a bit scattershot, and occasionally over the top but has some great information and insights and is both entertaining and emotional. My favorite leitmotif is about Haitian history and politics in relations to the use of voodoo.

Very well written, based on personal experience, knowledgeable author. This book contrasts with her prior one which was much more optimistic. One of the necessary reads to begin to understand Haiti.

This was recommended by a friend who has just published her first book. She said this book is one of her favorites and she displayed it when shewas at a local book store. The author spent a lot of time in Haiti and the book reflects both her connection with the people she has met in Haiti and her concern for them.

Amy Wilentz' "The Rainy Season" was my go-to book for an inside view of Haiti for over twenty years - one that I read three times or more, and that put so many questions in my head as history watched Aristide come to power, then be disappeared, then become President again, then not. And then the earthquake came, with all of its seemingly Biblical import for this continuously unfolding story about the nation we have been taught from an early age carries the tag line "Poorest nation in the Western Hemisphere." And wouldn't you know, perhaps when we are most looking for the proper context to review all of the events from the fall of Baby Doc through its retreat from the world media "disaster" stage, Amy Wilentz comes forth with this miracle of a book, a very personal journey that also happens to bring an unblinking eye to this new (and yet same old) Haiti. It grabs you from the first page, and manages to put 250 of incredibly complex history (especially as a proxy state of the USA) into images and reams of connective tissue that allows the whole story to make sense. Along the way, you get inside the experiences of celebrities like Sean Penn and heroes like Dr. Megan Coffee, each of whom manages to find their way through the Byzantine Haitian cultural and political roadblocks to force real change. On the one hand caustic and jaded, and on the other generous and full of innocent surprise, Wilentz is peerless is capturing this nation in the throes of the ultimate disaster, the outside forces that flooded its borders with help, and how it is the ultimate crucible for assessing the reach and limitations of charitable aid. If you read it once, you will want to read it again. And probably right away.

This book starts in a helicopter flight over a huge fortress that propelled Haiti out of a slave colony. I learned about Haiti's history along with the somewhat unhealthy relationships between the Haitians and the post earthquake aid organizations. great ideas, plenty of pictures - can't comment on the instructions until I try one. Even if I just use the pictures for inspirations, it's probably worth the money.

I love the variety of projects ; great inspiration , easy to read, would definitely recommend for any one looking to improve their gardens

I can hardly wait to make some of these projects. I like that most of them can be made with easy-to-get materials.

Beware! The author is Swedish and the projects are aimed toward northern gardens and with some materials I've never seen for sale anywhere I've lived. Willow twigs? Chipping hammer? Most of us don't have a welding outfit or a kiln in our toolkit either. A pictorial tools list is included.I'd rate many of these projects as suitable for the fit and moderately experienced DIYer. Many are for the larger yard.Some projects are handsome and seem within my skill level. I liked the Japanese trellis and the pebble compass rose.Be sure this book will apply to your situation before buying.

I started out reading Mr. Mayne's books with The Naturalist. I was hooked. I then read its sequel. When I found that the next book in the series won't be out until next February I went looking for something else by this author. I found this book and the first in the series, The Chronological Man. So I thought I'd give it a try. What fun reads. Both are novellas so even though I couldn't put them down, they were short reads for me. They were interesting to say the least. The plot moved along and although it was resolved there are still some unanswered questions. Who is Smith really? He has a sister?! And what about April? I could use another book in this series. Seriously I could. I hope Mr. Mayne is listening. As I said this book has a good plot, interesting characters and was fun to read. What more could you ask for? If you're a Doctor Who fan you too will find this a can't put down book and even if you're not.

I will confess that I am a Mayne-iac. On my Listmania "Best Bargain Reads for the Kindle" he holds numerous spots (including #1). My love of this author began when I read Public Enemy Zero, ebbed a bid with The Grendel's Shadow, then became firmly cemented with The Chronological Man: The Monster in the Mist. I found his skill, particularly his knack at writing thoroughly captivating adventures in different and distinct genres to be first rate. It got to the point where I would often pop in on his author's page to see if he had anything new out.What a great Christmas gift it was to discover that a new Chronological Man had been released. I was eager to jump in and follow the adventures of the elusive Dr. Who/Tony Stark/Sherlock Holmes mashup that is the main character Smith; a man who lives in suspended animation only to awake when he is most needed. I was hoping to find him solving more mysteries with the use of his brilliant machines, preternatural deductions, and the ever plucky Miss April Malone. And I am happy to report I was not dissappointed.Where TMitM had more of a Steampunk vibe, this second installment fits squarely in realm of the serial adventure, the pulp or dime novel. It would not be a stretch to see Smith cross paths with The Shadow or Doc Savage or The Avenger. Mr. Mayne works this vibe brilliantly as he charges our hero with the task of saving the world from a Martian invasion he is sure is a hoax. By employing a larger landscape (19th century New York) and a cast of historical characters (Teddy Roosevelt says hi!) Mayne kicks his series into high gear. And like the serials from which he draws his inspiration, we are faced with non-stop action that will leave you breathlessly turning pages until the very satisfying conclusion.Readers new to the series may sense a lack of character development that does not fully explain the mutual attraction between Smith and Ms. Malone. They may also feel slightly lost regarding Smith's "long naps" and references to events long passed. If so shame on you. For 99 cents you should be reading both The Monster in the Mist and The Martian Emperor...back to back...now! Read together, any cracks will surely be cemented over and what will be left is a solid body of work that is so entertaining you will wish there was a donation box on Amazon so that you could support Mr. Mayne even further.Favorite quote: "You don't elevate a society by putting a diffferent set of crooks in charge to steal and put their boots on our necks. The Martian Emperor is the second instalment of Andrew Mayne's "The Chronological Man" series. I think readers who start with The Martian Emperor, rather than the first book in the series, The Monster in the Mist (A Chronological Man Adventure) (The Chronological Man), are going to feel lost because Mayne does not spend any time in introducing the characters - the thoroughly modern April Malone and Smith - or explaining the central conceit by which Smith seems to travel through time. Those subjects are covered in "The Monster in the Mist." In this book, all the reader can do is barely get his seatbelt fastened before being taken for a high-paced joy-ride of an adventure.It seems that it is 1894 and New York is besieged by Martians. A flying saucer of all things has appeared in New York's Central Park and the Martian Emperor wants Earthlings to lay down their arms and give him a million dollars in gold. This odd news results in Smith being decanted and Smith and his side-kick, April Malone, head off in Smith's private train to New York. Smith meets Teddy Roosevelt, who knows him of old, and seems to know more about Smith's background than he lets on, and Smith, Roosevelt and Malone set out to unravel the mystery. During the course of their adventure, they meet a young carnival performer named Harry Houdini who lends a hand. Even Nellie Bly gets a cameo.Is it a hoax? Smith smells a rat because the "Martian" artifacts are too boilerplate cliche, and, yet, it also seems that the Martians are doing things that are in advance of the technology available in the closing days of the Nineteenth Century, kind of like Smith's own technology, which involves private automated trains, lighter than air flying vehicles and automated telegraph interception devices.All in all, The Martian Emperor is a rollicking good yarn. Smith, Malone and Teddy make for engaging characters. There are some improbable scenes and good humor (e.g., "I'm commandeering your rhinoceros.") We get hints about Smith's backstory: his sick sister is making the slow journey to the future, he had conversations with "Tom" about what a just society should look like, and Smith may have a technologically advanced rival in a secret society called "the White Apothecarians."The Martian Emperor is well worth the investment of time and money.
