As a grandmother, I wasn't sure if I should send my little 4-year-old grandson a book about nightmares. Like maybe it would be scary at bedtime. But it turned out to be a beloved story. "Let's read it again." I think it is empowering! :-) Who knew a monster could be such a good bedtime friend!! :-)
Big fan of the book. On top of the amazing drawing and overall plot and lesson, which I think is very poignant for children (using problem solving skills and teamwork to face their fears), there are numerous other details that I think really fill out the story and make it much more interesting than other books for children, such as making characters that defy gender norms and having the main character be friends with her supposed nightmare. Highly recommend!
This beautifully illustrated book is sure to charm readers of all ages. Tetri expertly expresses themes of friendship, teamwork, and facing our fears through artwork that manages to be simultaneously adorable and awe-inspiring. I was thrilled by Tetri's choice to use female pronouns for Tiger, subtly teaching children that both courage and fear are appropriate emotions for all of us.
A wonderfully written and beautifully illustrated book about a young tiger and his monster friend under her bed. My four year old daughter really loved it and it helped her realize that not all monsters are the scary kind. She asks to read it almost every night since we bought it.
This book is not only great for kids. The artwork is so compellingly, the story nis vibrant and wonderful.I've already read it twice! I'm buying it for everyone on my holiday list!

Since Tiger was a baby, Monster has kept her company at night. Every evening they play games and when it’s time for bed, Monster battles whatever nightmares enter the room so that Tiger can sleep in peace. One night, however, Monster encounters a nightmare that she can’t fend off. Together, Tiger and Monster try to figure out a way to defeat the nightmare.Tiger vs. Nightmare is a difficult book to categorize. Tetri’s illustrations (in watercolor and mechanical pencil) seem more appropriate for an older audience. The nighttime scenes feature a dark and gloomy palette, intensifying the experience when the nightmare actually appears. The nightmare, moreover, is a truly disturbing creation. With its crocodilian skull, menacing expression, and towering snake-like body, it might very well invoke nightmares in some of the younger readers for whom this book is marketed. Tiger and Monster’s friendship is endearing, and the story carries an empowering message about taking control of your dreams. The artwork, however, may repel sensitive readers.I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
