It briefly describes units of measure, with 1-2 pictures per page. If you don't know what you are looking for, this is kinda useful. It's also useful if you just want to learn new units of measure you didn't know about. Do not get this book if you know what you are after and want a detailed understanding of it. The descriptions are very brief and some really insufficient for a solid understanding. Obviously there are also a lot of specialty measures left out (I'm sure this is for practical reasons, as one could likely fill many weighty volumes trying to catalog and define all currently used types of measures). Sadly this book has no historical information, and very very little information on how these units were derived. Overall I'm disappointed, but not enough to return the book as it was $6.

Little in this book casts any light on the "Science of Measurment". In reality it is an endless list of definitions of words and terminolgy, the vast majority of which can be found in any good dictionary. This work tells you that an "Ocean-(is) a huge geographical mass of salt water" (pg 191). Whoa, be still my heart. That's informative.The author(s) lifted definitions from the English dictionary, a medical dictionary, and the Handbook of Chemistry and Physics for most of the text. The remaining entries are definitions of totally unimportant achaic terms.

I recommend this very well written book for reference and study guide. Excellent layout and information. Useful for school and household.

"A measure of Everything" is a sort of encyclopedia of measurement units, but with many other definitions thrown in, without much rhyme or reason: the arpent is defined but the vara not, the Roche Limit defined but Chandrasekhar's not addressed, and transcendental numbers mentioned but not defined. And it is organized rather haphazardly into sections that are not subdivided alphabetically. No matter, the index takes care of that.More to the point there are some technical errors: * the illustration of the vernier (p. 38) shows it reading 5.5 mm, not 5.1 * the calendrists (p. 86) did not ADD 146,000 days every 400 years * an excess of electrons (p. 104) is a negative (notpositive) charge.It is enthralling browsing, but not dependable as a reference work.

I bought this book that request of my 8-year old daughter, but have enjoyed thumbing through it myself.To be sure, it is a dictionary of scientific measurement, not an encyclopaedia; yet almost all of the pages contain an illustration, chart, or graph of some kind.The definitions are arranged by groupings: earth and life sciences, physical sciences, and Technology & leisure. Subheadings include such categories as astronomy, electricity, and music.Having purchased this book, I do now rather with that there was an encyclopedia version of the same subject. The section on 'Time and Calendar', for instance, mostly just notes the Jewish, Gregorian, Islamic, and Hindu calendars with a passing nod at the Chinese and Egyptian calendar.On the other hand, you can still scratch a lot of curious itches: "How do they determine what an 'era' is?" "Just what is Newtonian Time?" (Yes, I know, it's kept you up at night too...)The book is most likely of interest to the generally curious, information nerds, and those with inquisitive children who enjoy learning more about the world around them. A decent reference book on its topic.P.S. A last note: a dictionary format rather than an encyclopedia does allow the book to be small enough to carry about and read in a chair by smaller hands, something my daughter can't do with our Webster's Unabridged Dictionary.

With her world imploding once again, a good friend suggests that she tell Miss Black it is Mr Ferro or no one else. When they come to an agreement & Avery just hopes Sean will go along with it. Will Avery & Sean ever get to finish what they started or is Avery going to be left wondering what could have happened?Another short sassy installment of the Arrangement. It seems every time poor Avery figures something out for her life, life throws another road block in her way. She will have to fight for what she wants & is prepared to do so.

This is one of my favorite serials ever. It’s sexy, sassy, funny and dark.This serial belongs to the dark and brooding Sean Ferro. He’s the first Ferro I was introduced to, and he holds a piece of my heart. As the series start out, Sean is very mysterious, and to be honest – 15 volumes in (when I’m writing this review), he still is a bit of an enigma. There is still a lot to be learned. He’s a dark SOB, this one. He’s got his fetishes, but holy wow is he delicious. And scary. Seriously, I love him – but if I had known him IRL I would have been scared s***less, and kept my distance.Then we have Avery. This girl’s got some spunk. I mean she has to, given that Sean is her love interest. She’s a struggling student when we first meet her, and when her best friend, Mel, realizes this, she reveals what her REAL job is. She’s a high dollar call girl. Ms. Black latches on to Avery immediately, and if Avery just takes one client, it could solve all her problems. She only has to say yes. Problem is she only wants one guy, Sean. Enter: a s***load of trouble.“I’m rewarded, uh, I mean punished, with a slap to my backside.” - AveryThis is an erotic romance, and you can expect some mighty steamy scenes. Some of the volumes more so than others, because there is a hell of a lot going on in this series. The Arrangement, and Sean basically, was the catalyst for all the other books from this same world. Sean has made an appearance is in every spin-off so far. So this is obviously a great place to start if you are curious about H.M. Ward’s books. Just remember to start at the beginning. You would not understand half of what’s going on if you jumped into it halfway through.It’s important to note that this is a fan driven series. Essentially that means that as long as the fans want more, there will be more. And I honestly can’t picture the day we won’t want more. So if that is not for you, I recommend you go pick up something else, because this story has been going on for a good while now, and I certainly hope it will go on for a long time to come – as long as Holly wants it to.Another important note is that these are split up in volumes, and each one end on a cliffhanger (Holly is the queen of cliffhangers). It’s nerve-wracking every time. And it is one of the tings that keep it just as exciting as it was in the beginning. As well as the fact that they’re always fast paced, and it never gets boring. Each volume starts off exactly where the last one left off. I always like to re-read the latest volume before the next one releases because you really get thrown right back into the action without any recaps. It really is kind of built like a TV-show, which is so awesome, because something like that is currently in the works! *fangirls* Just Imagine seeing THE Sean Ferro on screen…

I can tell that I am going to have a love/hate relationship with this series. Avery is pretty consistent in her personality. She is broken and is fearful of losing her scholarship and then living in a cardboard box until she is no more. She is trying to get both her undergraduate and graduate degrees under the same scholarship requirements. It looks like no one helps her to find alternatives in the scholarship area or her minimum wage job. She's in NYC and should be able to get a commission based job that would pay a lot more. Oh well, I am not writing this novel...er chapter.In this CHAPTER, Avery and Sean finally have great sex together. At least Sean knows what he is doing in that area. but then he just leaves. Talk about running hot and cold! He is one mixed up guy. She really needs a Mother or Mel to tell her that he is too mixed up and broken, perhaps worse than she is. That does not make for a happy ending.On to CHAPTER 3

**4.5 Stars**Oh the anticipation! Both Avery and Sean are harboring secrets from one another. Avery needs this job and she wants Sean but feels she shouldn't. Sean apparently feels the same way about wanting Avery. And then there's this darned arrangement between them...This second installment definitely ratcheted up the tension. The will they or won't they, the fun they share getting to know one another, and the remorse and guilt coupled with the lust they feel for one another, it all made for tension so thick you could almost cut it. However, none of my questions were answered.I still don't know who Sean Ferro really is or what deep, dark secrets he hides that send him to a place where he buys his dates. I'm also beginning to wonder if there's more about Avery that I don't yet know. And it's all so compelling.Ward does an excellent job of doling out information and excitement in small enough doses to keep me riveted. I hope once all is revealed that it's worth the price tag because at $3/novella, times 16, it's a pricey, yet irresistible serial.

These cards alone will not give you a passing score. However, they were WELL WORTH the money to have an abbreviated version on important things to know. I would recommend for someone who was on a time crunch, like myself. Just make sure you understand the logic behind the information, pure memorization of the cards won't do it.

The flash cards are extremely helpful. They cover all the material you need to know for the CDE and in great depth. I like that the cards are very portable and easy to take everywhere. I also purchased the book made by the same company. The combination of the book and the cards make an amazing study system for the test. I am sure I will be very prepared when I take the test. As the author of 11 novels, I am no stranger to "gimmicks" aimed at stimulating a writer's creativity or breaking writer block. Most sound fabulous but when you actually use them, you wonder why you wasted your money and relegate them to the same dark corner as negative reviews. This is NOT one of those. Not only does it get your muse up and pumping, it's great fun too. I've started using it as a warm up in the morning before I begin writing. It never fails to put me in the mood to write. I've even started a new file for bits and pieces that I think might have possibilities. Well worth the money IMO!

I've been using the tool box for a week now and I've found it to be incredibly helpful. The book that came along with it was also really inspiring. The main focus of this toolbox is to just get you writing. It doesn't matter what it is, if it's good or if it makes sense. Just write, write, and write some more. Practice makes perfect and the toolbox offers a lot of inspiration and starting points, which is usually the hardest part for me. Big fan.

These exercises seem like a game until you realize you’ve written a short story that wins a contest! That’s what happened to me using prompts from The Writer’s Toolbox. It also turned out to be a fun game after dinner one night. Each person took a prompt, read it out loud then expanded on it and we had a hilariously outrageous story. That’s how easy it is to let your imagination put ideas together. I’ve written three additional stories and am aiming for one a week. This toolbox jumpstarted my writing career.

I ordered this as a gift for a writer friend who also meets with other writers. He used this with them as an exercise and they ALL loved it and have asked to do it again at their next meeting. He said it was fun and useful.. I'm delighted and so are they.

As a husband currently confronted with a marital crisis of my own making, I desperately searched Amazon for books that might help me navigate these scary and uncertain times and find my way back to my wife. I quickly found and purchased half a dozen books and have began devouring them, including this one. The description, author biography, low price ($1.99) and large number of 5-star reviews had me quickly clicking "buy now".As a non-religious person, when I actually began reading this book I was initially very dismayed when I started seeing references to God and biblical scriptures. If I had read some of the low-star reviews that mention this, I probably would not have purchased this.......and that would have been my great loss. There is so much good information in this book, most of which stands on it's own without the religious content. I finished three of the other six books I purchased before beginning "If He Only Knew", and while the information in this book reinforces a lot of the concepts talked about in the others, the author communicates in a very personal and organic way that I found extremely helpful and comforting, making the information much easier to relate to and absorb. Some of the other books I've read, while also informative and helpful, often seem to be written by those with an academic psychological background which can sometimes feel a bit...clinical...for lack of a better term. As an analogy, while the other books might be perfectly prepared meals from a fine dining establishment, this book feels more like warm comfort food. Both can be appreciated and enjoyed for what they are, and do not take away from the other.Even if you are non-religious like myself, if you are a married man, you should read this book. If you aren't in crisis with your marriage yet, this book can help you prevent ever reaching that point. For those in crisis like myself, I believe the principles and lessons can absolutely help you find your way back to your partner and marriage if you are willing to put in the effort.If you can't get past the infrequent religious references to see all the great information presented here, you are still putting yourself and your beliefs first over your spouse. Instead, follow the teaching of Bruce Lee..."Absorb what is useful, reject what is useless, add what is essentially your own." Don't get hung up on petty details, do whatever it takes to put your spouse first.

I'm your typical knucklehead husband, been with my wife for 15 years yet there is so much i don't know about her (when it comes to her emotional needs, what makes her tic). We recently hit a rough patch and contemplated divorce; when a disagreement happens she always tell me why can't I look in the mirror. So in an effort to keep my marriage intact I looked for a book for husbands, i decided to settle on this one and boy this OPENED MY EYES! So much so I can't believe I missed so much and lack appreciation of my life's partner, for any struggling husband or wife looking to knock some sense into her husband i highly recommend this.

I know it said the book isn't for women to read, but i did.We have been married for 32 years I bought the book for my husband because when we have a disagreement his favorite thing is to say "I just don't understand you".. He promised to read it if i got it,That was 2 month's ago. He has read 3 chapter's and that's it for him. Nothing is ever going to change with him, but it helped me to understand some of my own feeling's and reactions.This book was spot on about a lot of thing's about women.And i highly recommend it to men that actually want to understand their wife's and make a better marriage. As the old saying's go's men are from Mars and women are from Venus.Men think with their heads women think with their heart's. In this disposible world, marriage fall's by the wayside more then it should because couple's don't want to put the work or time into it. If you really love your women read this book.It will make your life and her's a lot more enjoyable and make for a longer loving and lasting relationship .

I admit I read this in hopes I could give to my husband. I cried at all I wish he would be willing to do and maybe this does work but I never foresee him picking this up. I had to stop. It is wonderful there is a man who did/is willing to do these things for his spouse and realizes that she will respond better when he tries to put her first.It has been an endless cycle of what my husband believes to be me having an attitude and him reacting when I am reacting to his behavior and he is then reacting to me a good portion of it. I am in no way saying I do not have a role to play in our looming divorce. If only he knew... if only he would educate himself on this... but then he has to want to. And there lies the biggest issue. You cannot make someone want to.

This is a very insightful read. Dr. Kevin Leman describes the reasons why first borns often suffer from the insurmountable pressure of being born first. He gives the reason for their tenacity, excellence, dominant characteristics, successes and failures, etc. This volume is a great read for not only those who are first borns, but also for people who are interested in learning more about their first born friend, parent, boss, co-worker, relative, spouse, etc.Dr. Leman not only shows the reasons behind first born temperaments, but he also gives practical insight on how to properly manage the pressure and responsiblity first borns face. This is a must read for first borns or people married to a first born. It is also a great read for those involved in counseling or psychology. I highly recommend it.

This audio cd is right on target. Dr. Leman, as usual, does an excellent job in pinpointing the myriad advantages of being the first born in the family. It is true that first borns which include us onlies are more mature, conscientious, and goal oriented than later born children.Dr. Leman is an excellent theorist and practician regarding birth order typology. However, I learned something new about the psychology of the first born-there are people with first born and/or only child characteristics although they were not technically the first borns in their respective families.I am an only and my mother is a first born. My mother was a typical first born-she loved being in charge and believed that she was always right. As a first born, she was often in conflict with superior staff because she believed that she knew more than they did. Even though we are close, we often clashed because of our strong personalities. I, too, believe that I am right and always gloat about it. I am also fiercely ambitious and believe in achieving the highest and if not, I would be miserable. The Firstborn Advantage is an excellent read and/or a good listen. It can be purchased in either book or cd form. Please purchase this enlightening treatise on the first born experience.

As I read through this book I kept thinking "Who is this man and how does he know me so well?"!If you are a firstborn you will find this book very enlightening. Dr. Leman has made birth order an area of research and study and he proves to be most knowledgeable on the subject. Although he refers to other birth orders in this book it is primarily focused on firstborns and their relationships with other birth orders and the world.Parents who read this book (preferably early in your parenting experience) will find it helpful as you relate to your firstborn and subsequent children. In addition to seeing myself with a new understanding I also found it enlightening in my understanding of my own (now adult) firstborn child.Dr. Leman has written an interesting book that does not bog down, it will keep you turning the pages as he explores how the firstborn child can develop their "edge" in school, work and home situations.

While Dr. Leman is persuasive, he wasn't persuasive enough. I know plenty of firstborns with all the personality traits of what he calls the firstborn that were late talkers, late walkers, late __. I'm not sure I buy that every single first born walks by 12 months, talks like a 4 year old at age 2, and is an overachiever in every area. I think Dr. Leman stereotypes "firstborns" (whether by birth order or his way of looking at first born) in a way that is unfair to a true firstborn that just may be a late developer. I think it's helpful to read the book for a broader scope of knowledge, but I would remain skeptical of jumping in hook, line, and sinker.
