Let me start off by saying, I love historical romances and I was so looking forward to reading this, but during the first third of the book I found I did not like the governess, Emilia. She is a bright cheery person however, she has several flaws I find suspect. She takes great delight in gossiping, she sates her curiosity even if it crosses line of propriety. For example, she is in the library and finds a journal written by the Earl, Joshua. She peeks and reads the first page and decides to put it back. She is stunned by what she read. She goes and has tea and can't stop thinking about the journal. She returns to the library and takes the journal. She is caught by Joshua who is furious (can't blame him). He tells her what he thinks. But instead of being embarrassed or feel guilty she becomes indignant and chastises him for leaving the journal out in the open. She did not feel regret, she just concentrated on the crazy feelings of excitement and confusion she got around him. I don’t know. She just started working for him and I think this is a bad start for her. I just do not like this woman. The next day, the Earl gives up some information about the darkness filling his home to Emilia. She is sworn to secrecy and is also told that the Earl fears for her and his sister’s safety based on what he told her. Again, Emilia is thinking about the physical attraction to the Earl and not the topics at hand. I don’t know. The more I read this the more I want to put it down and move on to something else. Okay, does Emilia ever think of anything other than these “feelings” she has for the Earl? OMG… I am 58% in the book and she is still mooning over the Earl. Will it ever stop? Now that I have finished the book, I like the overall concept of the story. I just wish there was more sleuthing and less mooning. I feel there is room for improvement. In the end, it was Emilia’s nosiness and curiosity that was able to dispel the darkness in Joshua’s home and his life. A happy ending.

suitable for late teens due to a couple of explicit sex scenes and the couple become lovers before the weddingWell, I did miss the wedding scene just before Chapter 27. The villains, Lady Spencer and Hugh, were necessary to make the lovers, Joshua and Emilia, marry. That marriage between them, Emiliaand Joshua, is a much better HEA (Happily Ever After) than any other possibility mainly because itwould not be the HEA that a romance requires.Emilia is definitely the chaos that helps to resolve the all too proper gloom of Glastonbrook. As one reviewer noted, she snoops and gossips but is a cheerful and uplifting person who encourages everyone around her. She even becomes the lover of Joshua knowing full well that things might crash completely. The villains help us indirectly when it becomes possible for Joshua to do the honorable thing and marry our errant and chaotic heroine Emilia. Whew! The story doesn't have the wedding that occurs before Chapter 27. However the epilogue reveals that Emilia and Joshua make lots of beautiful babies. And Lady Deidre gets a nice gentleman to marry, too!

OMG! Man, talk about hard hitting. A whirlwind of emotions and events that feed from the excitement and nerve racking tension that brings this bad boy roaring to life brilliantly. All the twists and turns, ups and downs, along with a few glitches and bumps here and there pull you deeper into this raging storyline and hard hitting plot. Throw in all the drama, intrigue, uncertainty, danger and suspense and you have one intense, page turning bombshell that grabs your attention and holds it from start to finish. The characters are complex and so believable it feels like you can just reach out and touch them. The scenes are so graphic and detailed it really pulls this bad boy together beautifully. You have no trouble picturing every scenario as it plays out perfectly. Lucy definitely nailed this bad boy 100% on point with such realism it really pulls this bad boy together flawlessly. Remarkable job Lucy, thanks for sharing this bad boy with us.I received an Advanced Reader Copy of this story.
