I have purchased a number of the Catalyst published CBT products in the past few months and with one minor exception I have been consistently impressed with the quality of their books.Readout 3039 is an interesting example of how the product lines have evolved over the past few years. Due to the depth of the universe it seems a lot of consolidation has been going on in the product lines; which I view as a welcome change.Therefore I was quite happy to see that 3039 was not only a consolidation of 3025 and 3026; but that it also included the common mechs produced and used after 3025, but prior to the clans arrival in ~3049. Included are mechs like the WolfHound which were generally sourcebook only in previous editions. It was also nice to see the inclusion of downgraded version of mechs from 2750. Due to the date of creation of those original sourcebooks it was always a bit unclear if anything from 2750 still survived in 3025, now we know.I honestly preferred the inclusion of original 3025/26 art when possible in this book. It was a nice way of acknowledging the older supplements while still upgrading them. The updated history sections are nice as well. Obviously they couldn't write about Hanse Davions BattleMaster exploits in the original 3025 since it was written in 1986 and that particular volume of the Warrior Trilogy was published in like 1989. If it wasn't included in this volume though it would have been an odd omission. So it is nice to see stuff like that included.Speaking of the BattleMaster I have to give some recognition to Catalyst for including the Project Phoenix section of this book. It was a great thing for them to include. Obviously they do not have pictures of those mech variants since they're copyrighted (or whatever the actual legal situation is these days.) It is a bit unfortunate that they have not decided to add in a similar Project Phoenix section into the current versions of the 3050 and 3055 Technical Readouts.To summarize; this is a great product from a company that is consistently delivering great products these days.
I still gave this 4 stars because it does have a lot of information in it. This is basically a rehash of the 3025 and 3026 tech readouts with a little new fiction thrown in for backstory and pilots of the machines. Since it is supposed to be for 3039, I was hoping to see some upgraded technology added to the mechs. The Helm Memory core had been at least partially decoded by this time in the Battletech universe, and according to other source material some of the weapons, systems, and construction materials were in use at this time, but not the full blown upgrades seen in the 3050 and later tech readouts. There are a couple "new" mechs, but they are downgraded versions of a couple Draconis Combine mechs. I think this readout should have bridged the gap, with mechs having maybe a upgraded weapon, or double strength heat sinks, etc. Overall, if you don't have the 3025 and 3026 readouts this is a good purchase for you. If you do have them, don't waste your money.
Four TROs in one, with original artwork from the earlier releases. Truly the "One stop shop" for those looking to play some Succession Wars Battletech! Great price for the most useful TRO in my collection! Plus, now I don't have to endanger my precious first editions anymore!

An awesome read. The style was very much like the original 3025 Tech' Readout, with famous pilots and what factory produced the 'Mech, tank, etc. It suits me fine as I am going to run a 3025 era Mechwarrior game using the Mechwarrior 2 rules. The dates in the 'Tech Readout helps my game as it provides dates for lostech that was rediscovered. All in all, a very good book!
this is a great book for the game. it catches up the in between mechs that were questionable from the novels
