From the Publisher

n mid-2004 the Darfur crisis in Western Sudan forced itself onto the center stage of world affairs. Arab Janjaweed militias, who support the Khartoum government, have engaged in a campaign of violence against the residents of Western Sudan. A formerly obscure `tribal conflict' in the heart of Africa has escalated into the first genocide of the twenty-first century. In sharp contrast to official reaction to the Rwandan massacres, U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell called the situation in Darfur a "genocide" in September 2004. Its characteristics-Arabism, Islamism, famine as a weapon of war, mass rape, international obfuscation, and a refusal to look evil squarely in the face-reflect many of the problems of the global South in general and of Africa in particular. Journalistic explanations of the unfolding humanitarian catastrophe have been given to hurried generalizations and inaccuracies: the genocide has been portrayed as an ethnic clash marked by Arab-on-African violence, with the Janjaweed militias under strict government control, but neither of these impressions is strictly true. Darfur: The Ambiguous Genocide explains what lies behind the conflict, how it came about, why it should not be oversimplified, and why it is so relevant to the future of the continent. Gérard Prunier sets out the ethnopolitical makeup of the Sudan and explains why the Darfur rebellion is regarded as a key threat to Arab power in the country--much more so than secessionism in the Christian South. This, he argues, accounts for the government's deployment of "exemplary violence" by the Janjaweed militias in order to intimidate other African Muslims into subservience. As the world watches, governments decide if, when, and how to intervene, and international organizations struggle to distribute aid, the knowledge in Prunier's book will provide crucial assistance.

The author does a remarkable job of providing the history of Darfur and all of the causes of the on-going genocide, the reasons that any meager attempts to end the suffering has failed, and the current situation. Although this is obviously a very complex environment, the author provides his information is a fashion that is understandable and yet allows the reader to understand the nuances of the situation. It is truly an incredibly sad account of a region of the world whose location has been important over time to both the Sudanese government and also outside players such as Libya and Chad. However, the people who live there have never been important to these same players - in fact their presence has more often than not been an annoyance and their lives have of late been considered expendable. I highly recommend this book, you can't conceive of the horrors that can play out in this world if you don't allow yourself to become informed.

Gerard Prunier is known for his rather dense narrative, so I would now recommend picking up this volume as a primer for understanding the conflict in Darfur.Gerard often juggles with words and concepts in a confusing way, but anyone with at least a basic understanding of the African history can rather quickly catch up.

Covers the root cause of this conflict and the external power that support different factions in the war. This area is covered with different rebal groups trying to get better conditions in their respective areas.

As Yehudit Ronen stated, Prunier rightly labels the response of the international community to the atrocities in Darfur, a "regression of civilization," a description he convincingly argues for in this comprehensive and eye-opening work. In it, he analyzes the historical roots of the conflict in Sudan's western region and discusses why international efforts to halt the tragedy in Darfur have been so impotent.Prunier takes the reader to the early history of Darfur as an independent sultanate and relates the human movement into the region of people who now constitute Darfur's diverse ethnic makeup. He details the subsequent annexation of Darfur to Sudan and shows how British benign neglect toward the region began an important trend that endured in the era of independence. Prunier surveys the frustration of democratic politics in Darfur and the devastating famine of the mid-1980s in which about 100,000 people died. He addresses the Libyan interference in Darfur to promote Mu'ammar al-Qadhafi's war in Chad. This, he explains, was a critical cause in pitting the Darfurian "Arab" ethnic groups ("tribes" in Prunier's parlance) against their "African," Muslim co-religionists. It was during the chaotic circumstances in the region between 1985 and 1988, Prunier explains, that the pattern of Arab militia attacks on African villages was first established, and atrocities similar in manner, although not in scale, were perpetrated by the dreaded Janjaweed, the "evil horsemen."Prunier describes how the cynical opportunism of Hasan Abdallah al-Turabi, the Arab Islamist who had led Sudan jointly with Omar al-Bashir after 1989, further fuelled the combustible components of the Darfurian reality. Turabi's political machinations aimed at removing Bashir from power and gaining sole leadership of the country. The catastrophic results of this power struggle, won by Bashir, would be played out on the backs of the Darfurians and Sudanese society as a whole. At times bitter, at times scornful, Prunier illustrates the neglect of the international media in bringing the crisis to world attention, largely because of the lack of a catchy angle for another African horror story. Prunier states that the international community also paid little attention to the Darfurian violence due to a combination of reasons, among them the overwhelming desire to finally solve the preexisting Sudanese civil war in the south, the U.S. preoccupation with the insurgency in Iraq, and Khartoum's cooperation in Washington's war on terror. Darfur was thus given a backseat in international priorities as the Janjaweed murdered, pillaged, burned, and raped their way through the region. While not discussing in depth the socioeconomic problems of Sudan--problems crucial in the ignition of the Darfur fire--Prunier contends that it was notions of race in Darfur that led to the horrors there. Despite the ethnic mixing in the region and the blurred racial lines between Africans and Arabs, this distinction was superimposed on the varied ethnic groups of the region, then exploited by the ruling Arab elite in Khartoum. The possibility of a racial alliance between the Darfurian rebels and their southern "brothers" terrified these rulers. Prunier claims that the killing in Darfur should not be seen as genocide, since the aims of the Sudanese government were not to eradicate a people but rather to carry out the brutal suppression of what was seen as an existential threat. Whatever term one uses, however, the carnage and misery unleashed by Khartoum and its Janjaweed cohorts remains just as horrific.

For those familiar with Darfur only through George Clooney's media-savvy pleading to raise awareness of the genocide occurring there, Gérard Prunier's incisive, often scathing examination of the volatile political situation in this western Sudanese province provides quite a bracing, fascinating education. A French ethnographer and respected expert on East Africa, he brings together surprising facts about the war-torn area and the evasive actions taken by the National Islamic Front (NIF) government in Sudan's capital, Khartoum. The scope of the conflict is shocking - an estimated 400,000 deaths and 2.5 million displaced since it started in February 2003. But Prunier gets beyond the figures to paint a community so burdened by its own intertribal complexities that it maintains an unfortunate separateness from the rest of the country. He points out not only the passive actions emanating from Khartoum, but also how Darfur has fed into its own sovereignty by looking west toward the Sahel for its resources rather than the rest of Sudan. The author does not hold back on his harsh criticisms of the NIF government which he sees as intentionally encouraging Darfur's ethic polarization between the Janjaweed and the non-Baggara people in order to maintain control over the area. Intriguingly, he sees the burgeoning racial politics as the result of increasing Arab influences in Khartoum since the official administrative perspective is blatantly insensitive to the traditional tribal cleavages in Darfur. These divisions are what lie at the heart of the atrocities in Darfur since they have ramifications on the economic and military situation, which began when the Sudan Liberation Army took up arms in 2002. The NIF unleashed militias to deal with the problem, but political infighting in Khartoum vetoed any acts of outright repression. This ongoing stand-off has caused up to one-half of Darfur's population to be driven into camps for internally displaced persons (IDPs). In this isolated state, Prunier points out that they are beyond the reach of international food aid, and malnutrition has festered to the point of casualties amounting to an 8% depletion of the population each year.Humanism issues aside, the NIF has no incentive to address the devastation since their top priority is to maintain political supremacy, and from an outsider's perspective, they have managed to convince the rest of the world that they are supporting the Naivasha peace process. Prunier shows that it is ironically this peace process that assures the continued genocide. The UN Security Council has passed resolutions attempting to force the Sudanese government's hand in controlling the spiraling morass in Darfur. However, the UN is hamstrung by its inability to deploy peacekeeping forces in the area, and neither none of the major Western powers have troops available to send in their place. The author effectively shows how the UN has placed a greater priority in bringing a conflict-ridden Sudan back into the international community than deal with what they perceive as a civil war among insurgents. Because it is not a concentrated effort like the Nazis in WWII, genocide is not even an accepted term for what is going on there. Prunier does an excellent job of breaking though the semantic confusion to get to the day-to-day reality of the regional devastation. This is essential reading for anyone wanting to know what Darfur really means.

I bought the original 18 years ago and have bought 3 since (binding falls apart -- alas). I have a very large collection of cookbooks but I go back to the original over and over and over. I have now read the updated version (okay -- I've read it 3 times now). It is ever bit as good and adds pieces here and there that update to today. I have cooked a couple of recipes already and they do not disappoint. The idea of knowing you can plan ahead is a good theme and carried out well. I miss her dessert section but the original is still around so I can go there if I need to. I will continue to cook out of both editions. I would point out three things though -- the updated book has pictures, a great bread recipe AND the pages wipe clean!

I love the strategies Ms. Anderson gives for making cooking easy, approachable and fun! I never though of myself as someone who *regularly* makes dinner- following a recipe after work every night seems just out of reach- but her book has inspired me to spend more time in the kitchen, to think ahead about the next few meals, and to have more confidence about cooking without a recipe. The bottom line is that my family is eating more home-cooked meals than ever thanks to this book.

Of my hundred-ish cookbooks, this is the only one that sits on my counter. I’ve gifted it several times already because I use it constantly. Every recipe has turned out perfectly IN LESS THAN AN HOUR. The flexibility in the recipes has allowed me to waste less food, cook with more in-season vegetables, and remove some high-sugar/sodium timesavers from my repertoire. Low effort, high payoff recipes that are truly practical for cooking newbies and experts alike. Oh- and that bread recipe!

I read this book in 2 days! I loved that it taught some basic cooking techniques and explained WHY they may differ depending on the ingredient, protein, or vegetables you use. The book also re-incorporated recipes throughout so that you could see how to use leftovers in other dishes. HIGHLY RECOMMEND for anyone who wants to learn to how to be a better cook!

Great info, inspired ideas and delicious recipes! This revised version is even better than the first edition. Thanks, Pam!

This is my favorite go-to book. We love the sauces.

The first version of this book, released almost 20 years ago, is probably my favorite cookbook. It is falling apart from so much use. (I know: it's supposed to teach you to not need a book. It does do that, but I enjoyed her specific recipe variations enough that I often wanted to refer to them. Plus, my memory is not good. :-J ) When I received a gift credit, I decided to buy the updated edition of the book. I'm so glad I did - it is a worthy addition to the first one. I will be keeping my original, as it has some sections that aren't in the new book (e.g., tossed and paired salads, weeknight ravioli, appetizers, desserts). That said, the new book is well worth the additional cost. It emphasizes time-saving by planning ahead and includes several clever approaches to doing so. It retains the best of the original book, yet often with adjustments that save time and/or improve the taste. The second book includes new sections, too, containing recipe bases that I've tried and found to be efficient and delicious. Examples include Two Chickens, Three Dinners; Weeknight Roast Dinner; Shove-It-In-The-Oven Stew; Hearty Grain and Legume Salads; Make It Pizza Night; and A Little Mise (with time-saving ideas for preparing foods for later use during the week). And, as another reviewer has mentioned, the Daily Bread recipe would alone be worth the price of the book. I expected that the updated version would have slick color photographs (unlike the original, a black, gray and white text-only book) and include a few tweaks to some of the original recipes. Indeed, it has beautiful photographs on sturdy pages. More than that, though, I appreciate the updated, valuable content. I highly recommend this book, whether or not you have the original!

My own copy of this book--purchased almost 2 decades ago--is well worn and heavily stained. Since then, I've purchased at least 10 copies of this book and given them as gifts. This book is the best way I know to encourage someone with no experience in the kitchen to begin cooking for themselves. Just bought yet another copy to give as a wedding gift.

We ordered several of these for home use and for gifts. Very useful for anyone who ever asks, "What did Jesus have to say about this?" Not much of a sit down and read through book in our mind but a good reference and gift.

Three caveats: 1) Do not read cover-to-cover. The organization means that consecutive sections often have high overlap, compounded by the fact that some stories are in multiple gospels. Use it as a reference. 2) If you are not an Evangelical Christian, go ahead and skip the author commentary. 3) I think he includes things that don't actually fit certain topics, though it could just as easily be that I'm not understanding those passages. All that said, it is amazing and powerful to see all Jesus' teachings on a subject together, and the world is a better place for having this book in it. If you are a Christian who wants to know Jesus better, or a non-Christian curious to hear Jesus without the middlemen's interpretation, you need this book.

Next to the Bible, great go to book, extra reference. It categories Several passages under one topic, something like the reference section of the Bible, except instead of going to look up each passage it is written under each topic, give the sense that God/Jesus is sitting in front of you explaining whatever it is that needs to be explained. And it does this passage after passage.

This is the best "Christian" book ever written. It isn't someone's right or wrong opinion about God and His will but the Word of God Himself. You can't go wrong reading this one since it is written that "God's Word became flesh and blood in Jesus Christ" and "...without the word nothing was made that was made", and these are His Words.

This book works great as a general organized reference work for every day living, or an accompanying work to the Jesus Speaks devotional book by the same author. Quite a lot to read on many of the subjects and cross referenced by subject within the Jesus Speaks devotional. I could read this for hours. Now know what you are getting. Everything Jesus said organized by subject all in one thinline book. Readable by itself, but better as a research, or heart questing tool, or a reference work to assist with other reading. I like it very much.

I like this book. I had a paper book that I gave to someone and I ordered this on my kindle. This particular book, I would rather have in paper, but that's just me, so I will be reordering it in paper. you will like the organization of the scriptures. Anything you want to know about any subject Jesus spoke about, it is there. Steven Scott had a very good idea when he organized the scriptures like this.

Noted author, Steven K. Scott, published this powerful resource material in 2008. Within its 489 pages there are over 1,900 statements made over two centuries ago by Jesus Christ. Yes, I know His words are in the New Testament, often printed with red lettering, and yes, many Bibles have a concordance (and many are published with letters so small and light you can't read them too) however....I found this book of statements by topic to be a companion to the Bible, for those who practice Christianity as well as an inspiration and educational book for those of any faith.Rich, poor, young, old, - who would not be interested in what Jesus Christ taught during his three years of ministry on earth. After all, as we read in "One Solitary Life," -- "all the armies that ever marched, all the navies that ever sailed, all the parliaments that ever reigned have not affected the life on this earth as that...one solitary life" Think about it!The statements are written (NIV version) under 200 topics which include what He said about Himself and His identity and mission; about how to have success in your life, including compassion, forgiveness, love; about God reaching out to humanity, including grace, prophecy, freedom, conflict, forgiveness; and about eternity, including angels, rewards, etc. Name your problem or area of interest and there is an answer. You can locate His wisdom quickly and easily in this unique guidebook.I recommend this book "The Greatest Words Ever Spoken, Everything Jesus Said About You, Your Life, and Everything Else" because the teachings of Jesus Christ provide direction to meet every need and you can enjoy them all without explanation or interruption - just turn to a topic and be surprised! Be inspired! He has a message that will fill a void in your life and make it complete.

What an outstanding book, I wish to applaud Mr. Scott! It took a herculean effort to coallate, index by subject and put this book together, it must have been a labor of love_it shows it.I really am so thankful to have all the words of Jesus in this format. It is extremely well done and illustrates with brilliance the timeless words of Jesus. Brilliantly set up so you understand the context and indexed so you can research by topic, there has never been a time of more importance or relevance for this book.It is an excellent reference book and for my friends and family that are not believers and those of my contemporaries and family members who shy away from the "Word of God" and think themselves intellectually superior, I challenge you to read this book, first, then render your judgments. This is not about religion, it's about history and a personal knowledge, understanding and truth. If that is what you truly are pursuing in your life, (knowledge, understanding, wisdom and truth) then you owe it to yourself to invest the time to read this book and come to your own conclusion.Excellent read, I am very grateful he took the time to complete this project, in my opinion, it's a must read. I am buying multiple additional copies to give away.

Much respect to Dr. Ford. If you are SDA you need to read this book. It has changed my perspective on a lot of the things the church teaches and the majority of it's member take as gospel. Study to show thyself approved.

The gospel pure and simple! Wonderful words of life!

I am a Seventh-Day Adventist and since I was nineteen years old,I ceased believing in the S.D.A. Investigative Judgement doctrine and the prophetic inspiration of Ellen White.Dr Ford knows more about 1844 and all that is related to it more than most,it would seem to me.Thus anything he writes on the subject is worth reading.I think that many Adventists are ignorant of the problems surrounding the S.D.A. church's traditional interpretation of Daniel 8:14,and the other parts of this cumbersome doctrine! In fact, most S.D.A.s seem unable to even explain the doctrine to potential converts.Well Dr Ford's book illustrates why this is so.Importantly,he gives the names of other top scholars in the S.D.A. church who don't or never believed in the 1844 caricature;among them being Dr Fred Veltman, who is now deceased. However,I can not understand how in light of his almost flawless critique of the Investigative Judgement doctrine,Dr Ford can retain his faith in Ellen White. In my view, since she claimed prophetic inspiration in support of the doctrine, her claims of being God's special messenger must be rejected,if the said doctrine is unbiblical! The big question now is,how much can the rest of the church trust the leaders of the modern S.D.A. church?Well I don't trust them in the least!

Dr. Ford is a TRUE Christian teacher/preacher/scholar- all his talks etc are right on. I also do not understand hisloyalty to EGW. but that shows love. I am not allowed to attend any SDA church because I don't support EGW writings. Some get to stay like the great Raymond Cottrell and others because of long Sabbath/SDA families, but some as Dr. Ford and others are dis-fellowshiped or un-welcomed. I will keep watching and reading from Amazon all Dr' Ford's books that I can get.

I had a copy of this book when I was young. I must have read it...well, several times, and then used it for reference. I never thought I'd find another copy and gave up. Years later, thanks to the power of the internet (which wasn't around when I was a kid-at least not unless you were in a high powered govt. think tank) I found a copy here on Amazon. I had believed it was out of print. After I read it a couple more times, I'm going to donate it. The Star Trek museum in Riverside, Iowa is about an hour away from me. (Riverside is the future birthplace of Captain James Tiberius Kirk.) The museum staff told me that they didn't have a copy and didn't even know this book existed. BTW, if you get a chance to visit Riverside, Iowa, stop in at the museum. It's free and it's fun.

I read this years ago (I was in college when TOS came out), but got another copy after watching the remastered TOS. This is a nice read for any Star Trek fan. It was written prior to the third season cancellation, and is largely a celebration of Gene Roddenberry the "Great Bird of the Galaxy". As such, much truth and all negatives have been left out. Regardless, it does give one a basic understanding of how this particular series was put together. For a more in-depth look, I would recommend that you also read the Herb Solow / Bob Justman book, Inside Star Trek: The Real Story. These authors actually participated in the birth/production of Star Trek and they expose more of how things really played-out. They reassign some of the credit, and relate some of the personal foibles of cast, crew, and studio heads. Both books are good by themselves, but much better together.

What can I say, never have I read a more through account of probably the greatest SCFI show of all time the original Star Trek Series from the 1960's. Roddenberry was not only a master of detail and a genius but a visionary as well. Whitfield's exhaustive research bodes him well as one of the finest television historians out there. What I really love about this book is that it is written AS THE SHOW WAS STILL ON THE AIR. We get a glimpse as to where the show was headed prior to the third season cancellation. Oh to imagine where it would have gone, though we do get a glimpse with the Animated Season as major STTOS writer D.C. Fontana stated that some of her ideas were used for a proposed fourth series but used with the Animated Series. All I can say is this book gets a "24 Phaser Salute".

I had this book as a teenager and used it as a reference to write a term paper in English II called "End of the Trek?". Little did I know that my teacher was a Trekkie, too. He borrowed the book, and somehow, it "got lost" and I never got it back. SO, I was sure glad to find a copy on Amazon after I saw the latest Star Trek movie, "Into Darkness" and remembered that I had once owned it. (Honestly, it's been a FEW years ago! I have grandkids who are Trekkies now!). It really filled a gap I have had in my library for a long time! If you, too, are a Trekkie, this book is invaluable if you want to know how it all began, and how many twists and turns there were to getting the TV series to where it ended up. We almost didn't have a "Mr. Spock" or "Chekov" either one!

This is a most entertaining, clearly written, insightful book. The pictures are great, and it's fascinating to read of the process of producing my favorite tv show. I read this book back in the 1970's as a kid, and I'm thrilled to get it back again after all these years.

Great trip through time, I remember reading this when it was new in print. Now it's jarring to hear that George Takei's family "moved" to Arkansas and know that, no, they were sent there as part of the forced relocation in WW II. We just didn't talk about things like that in the 60s. :-/ But if you take into consideration what a difference 50 years can make, the book is a great read.

This book is without question the most important book for any fan of the original series. It gives the reader a behind the scenes look at the goings on of trying to get the show off the ground, production notes and memos of the writers and staff...and of course, of Gene Roddenberry himself.Including some great pictures of props, the actors and the special effects.

Covers details of production with some technical details of the fictional Trek universe. First book to describe the various decks of the Enterprise and have diagrams and cutaway views. Formed the basis of the later equally famous Franz Joseph USS Enterprise deckplans. This was one of the first Trek books on the market so it covers only TOS (The Original Series). But since it is "old school", that also means there is little flash and tons of hardcore information. If you have more than a passing fancy for Trek (especially TOS), then this book is a must-have.

I love this book! You will definitely laugh and more than several times! I even laughed out loud! The true stories aren’t all funny as you will see if you read this. Very emotional ending. I hope there are other books written by this author but something tells me there might not be any more. Wonderful book. I’m so glad I read it. I forget a lot (most) of the books I have read over these many years but I won’t forget this one.

This was the funniest book ever—-and the most tragic—-for one doctor, many patients and their families and most especially for a doomed and dangerous healthcare delivery system. United States politicians who tout a one-payer system would be well served to read this book and then tape their mouths and votes shut with duct tape. This is a must read book!

This is a fantastic book, and maybe a pre-requisite lecture for any of the future Health Secretaries. Doctors give so much, and ask back for so little, and even that little is many times denied. I have laughed while reading the book, but in the same time it broke my heart to see yhe tragedy underneath the words. Spouses leaving with no spouse present, kids growing up with one of the parents constantly missing in their life. The system can ignore the problems, and contonue pushing for more hours from the doctors, for more cost-cutting measures, but when most of the doctors will be gone (because they are merely mortals, and not Gods), who will take care of patients? You can almost call it the "Chinese Cultural Revolution" of the NHS. Let's hope they will not have to bring in high-schoolers to do the surgeries

Wow! Laugh 'til it hurts...and then the horrible punch line. The book doesn't inspire confidence in the British health system, although America treats its interns very badly, too.But this is a funny, funny writer...until he can't be funny writing this story any more.

I saw the tip from John Niven: "You need to read this".Who? I dont' think I know the author? Really? OK then...Like with many great books, there's comedy (lots) as well as tragedy. The book starts off with a diary of short, dry, if rather hilarious, descriptions of the situations a junior NHS doctor -the author in a previous life- finds himself in. I read the first half gasping for breath, laughing way too hard, wanting to instantly tell the jokes to my wife, but suspected she might frown at being nudged at 4:00 AM to hear a placenta joke. But from behind the sarcasm I started to see the dedication and care - despite the sometimes bone-dry insanely funny descriptions of mishaps and human silliness. The hilarious bits are still there, yet there's another narrative coming to the front, with first hinted at, and then more open, drama. It's weird to almost feel guilty about laughing so hard when you fully start to grasp the background and even, yes, message. An ending that, if you have a heart, will make sure it will be ripped right out - which is pretty much in sync with the rest of the stories where things get ripped, gently or less so, from human bodies. No spoilers, but maybe, what hurts most, is realizing the author no longer practices medicine today, and that this, despite the seemingly cynical descriptions of bodily functions-and-parts going pear shaped (baby heads, often...), is probably a damn shame. Then again, this book wouldn't exist if that was the case.I finished this book at 5:30 AM the next day, surprised that it made me emotional the way it did. ("Woke", I think the more youthful reader might call it.) Anyway, unless you are planning to have a baby in the next year or so (and even then... there's quite a bit of useful information, but it might slightly put you off) you have to read this for yourself. You may need stitches though!

I too am a doctor, albeit in a different country. What Alan went through appears to cross all borders and i can identify with so much of what he writes about. Humour is the only way to get through it. And the camaraderie. The saddest of all is that the public see us as money grabbing mean people! Really? Thanks Alan for sharing this journey. More people need to read it.

A laugh out loud book as well as a peek into the unusual private habits of the human race. I have seen similar things while working in Law Enforcement. 50% of people are just stupid or weird. This guy is a saint. A good read in any case. Government health care turns good doctors into slaves and allows bad ones to have job security. Do you want to have surgery from a person who has been awake for 30 hours straight? Not me.This would have been a four star if it had not been for the medical jargon and British colloquial phrases. The Doctor included a lot of numbered notations that are in the back of the book. However, with an Kindle book you know how impossible that is to go back and forth without losing your place.

I picked this for my book club last month and loved it. We have a bad habit of not finishing the books we pick (at least, some of us)! So I picked this because it seemed it would be easy to pick up and put down, not requiring a huge time commitment on any given day. I was right. It's easy to read and because it's a series of journal entries, you don't necessarily have to read every entry in the middle. Did everyone read it? No. But most of us at least read some of it! I read the whole thing and was impressed by the wit and humor on every page. There was a sense of continuity, even if it's journal entries.I would highly recommend this book to anyone that can grab short snippets of time to read or that has a book club with a problem finishing their books! And for anyone that has a sense of humor with a side of empathy. Also, we have a couple pregnant women in our club, and a couple moms, and they were not freaked out upon reading this book full of gynecology stories. It's safe for everyone!
